People sense that the corridor dev't they see is not for them but for show, a façade masking the suffering of Ethipians

"Corridor development, much like the whitewashed tombs described by Jesus, focuses on surface-level beautification while ignoring the inner realities of society. A few newly painted streets and glittering buildings may impress visitors or project an image of progress to the world. But they do little to address the underlying struggles of the majority – the over 90% of Ethiopians who live outside these corridors and see no real improvement in their lives, if not war and displacement.

This psychological dissonance – between the bright exterior and the grim interior – creates frustration and alienation among citizens. People sense that the beauty they see is not for them but for show, a façade masking the suffering of those uprooted, marginalized, or left behind."

Beyond spirituality, the psychological effects are profound. Beautified streets surrounded by displaced families and suppressed communities send a conflicting message: development is happening, but not for you. Instead of fostering national pride, this disconnect can breed resentment, mistrust, and a sense of exclusion. Moreover, the coercive undertones – forcing people to “agree” with the government’s agenda – erode psychological safety and civic confidence.
