Egypt Is Not Building The World's Longest Artificial River For Nothing
Egypt is constructing a new pharaonic 10 billion dollar irrigation system, named "The New Delta". It's intended to increase the country's agricultural production by 30% and feed the entire population of Egypt. The project is to reclaim desert land for agriculture and transform 9,200 square kilometers of desert into fertile farmland. To irrigate them, the state is building a 70 miles long artificial river in the arid sand, which will divert water from the Nile. The artificial river, expected to be the world's largest, will use treated wastewater from the Nile for irrigation. The project is estimated to cost $9.7 billion.
