Italy and France landlocked Ethiopia

Post by Tiago » 08 Jul 2025, 20:49

The Europeans caused all these mess and now comment on impending war in the Horne as if they
have nothing to do with it.
Their only concern is the influx of refugees coming to their shores.
Why are they silent when it comes to sorting the mess they left behind?
In my opinion,Italy and France must be accountable for the injustices they planted in the region and specifically against Ethiopia or else must be expelled from Ethiopian altogether

There was no Ethiopia when the Italians colonized Midri Bahri. It was after stopping the Italians at Adwa from colonizing his kingdom that Minilik moved Southwards and colonized over 60% of the land mass that is at present known as Ethiopia. No Abyssinian king had ever crossed the Mereb leave alone reach the Red Sea. Even the marauding Agame bandit Alula never saw the sea. Massawa was under the Ottomans for overv 500 years. And Abyssinians never heard of Assab until the Italians turned it into a modern port. Mythologies like the Kibre Negest may have worked in the middle ages but are useless today.

Like most Ethiopians,I am more focused on why the Europeans are silent on this matter and the condition France and Italy made sure Ethiopia has no sea outlet.
Contrary to your assumption majority of Ethiopians are not interested in Massawa or Assab.when the French built the railways from Djibouti to AA ,there was some form of agreement that entitles Ethiopia the use of the port of Djibouti.whatever happened to the agreement?
Thing around the horn are about to change
The Chinese are going to change things around soon and the larger African market and it's access with railway links is their focus than tiny ,hot and arid Djibouti with NOTHING to export.
As the ports in Eritrea, they are increasingly becoming unattractive and can't see any Ethiopian government ever want to use it even for free.   your hopes are about to be dashed for good.
Djibouti is firmly the preferred sea outlet for Ethiopian trade.

The only time Ethiopia became a coastal nation was from 1952 to 1991, when a world super power decided Eritrea be linked with its largest African colony, Ethiopia-- a permanently landlocked country that was created by the British monarchy in 1945 following Italy's defeat by British colonial forces in East Africa.

In the same year, in 1945, the British changed Abyssnia's name to Ethiopia to erase its past history of Italian colonization to fit the "never colonized" narrative.

Cry baby, Menelik signed treaties that blocks you forever.

It's well and good, don't use our ports. Just stop salivating of owning them and it's ok with us. You haven't used them for the last quarter of a century anyway, and we're not begging you to.

I just want to state the fact that for most Ethiopians "Eritrea" and 'Ports" are their least concern.
Axumezana,Horus and the like seem to blabber about Assab and getting rid of Issayas 24/7 but these persons, let alone represent Ethiopians views, their mental states are highly questionable.

Switzerland is a landlocked country, but also one of the most developed and wealthiest nation on Earth. The Swiss people were able to achieve high standard of living because they never saw their landlocked status as an issue but as opportunity to become good neighbors to the coastal countries that grant them unfettered access to the sea.

By changing their way of thinking the Swiss were able to change their lives.

What are we Ethiopians doing to change our way of thinking? How long do we allow donor nations do the thinking for us? :|
