OLA Launches Deadly Attack on Government Forces in Oromia Amid Growing Instability

The Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) launched a major assault this week on federal forces in the Oromia region, leaving a number of Abiy Ahmed troops dead and wounded. The attack comes at a time when Abiy’s regime is facing mounting challenges across the country. The federal government has effectively lost control of both the Amhara and Tigray regions to Fano militias and the TPLF.
With the ongoing insurgency in Oromia and the breakdown of authority in key regions, observers say Abiy’s regime now holds sway over only a fraction of the country.
Critics argue Abiy Ahmed's time in office is fast becoming one of the bloodiest and, if the current trajectory continues, potentially the most short-lived in Ethiopia’s recent history.
