Strong Start by Biniam Girmay at 112th Tour de France

@shabait

Eritrean Olympian Biniam Girmay of Belgian team Intermarché-Wanty kicked off the 112th edition of the Tour de France with an impressive second-place finish in the opening stage.

The 184.9 km race was completed in 3 hours, 53 minutes, and 5 seconds, with Jasper Philipsen of Alpecin-Deceuninck claiming first place. Biniam crossed the finish line with the same time, narrowly missing the top spot but asserting his presence early in the competition.

In the intermediate sprint, Biniam secured third place and earned 15 points in the green jersey classification. As a result, he enters Stage Two ranked second overall in both the yellow and green jersey standings, and leads the white jersey category for best young rider.

The second stage of the Tour will continue on Sunday with a 209.1 km route.

Biniam Girmay made history in the 111th edition of the Tour de France last year, winning three stages and becoming the first Black African cyclist to win the prestigious green jersey.

Transfers | Alexander Isak
‘Confident’ claim made over Liverpool and Alexander Isak as Newcastle’s true asking price becomes clear

Mon 30 June 2025

Liverpool’s summer spending looks set to continue as they push ahead with a blockbuster move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

The Reds have been the Premier League’s most active side in June, wrapping up three exciting transfers ahead of the start of pre-season.

Liverpool https://www.rousingthekop.com/club/ are not done yet, though, with all eyes on further additions at centre-back and centre-forward.

While Marc Guehi has become a concrete target https://www.rousingthekop.com/2025/06/2 ... y-hurdles/ in defence, the Reds have always had eyes for Isak https://www.rousingthekop.com/tag/alexander-isak/ as their dream option up front.

Recent reports have suggested Liverpool are preparing the ground for a July bid for Isak, https://www.rousingthekop.com/2025/06/2 ... newcastle/ with Monday’s PSR deadline set to reset the accounts in terms of transfer spend.

And as noise continues to grow louder over a record Anfield https://www.rousingthekop.com/club/anfi ... formation/ move for the Swede, Rousing The Kop asked journalist Graeme Bailey https://www.rousingthekop.com/tag/graeme-bailey/ for the latest on Liverpool’s hopes of landing Isak.

Liverpool not deterred in Alexander Isak chase

Despite the addition of Florian Wirtz this summer, Liverpool are still searching for the right player to spearhead their attack.

RTK have maintained throughout the transfer window that Isak is the top target for Liverpool https://www.rousingthekop.com/2025/06/1 ... n-emerges/ and according to Bailey, that is still very much the case.
Isak has always been in play. I’m confident with my sources on him and what we’re hearing,
he says.
Newcastle are willing to break their wage structure on a new deal for him, but Liverpool are keeping a close eye on the talks and it’s going to come to a head very soon. There’s not much coming out from Newcastle’s end so we wait to see which way it goes.
Bailey says that despite the obvious complexities of striking a deal with Newcastle, Liverpool believe there is a ‘chink of light’ which could still see them get their man.
Liverpool are not being deterred, we’re not sure quite why that is, but they seem to think there’s a chink of light there,
the reporter explains.
Whilst this new contract hasn’t been signed that will remain the case.
How much would Isak really cost?

The suggestion throughout the summer has always been that if Isak does sign a new contract on Tyneside, Liverpool can pretty much forget any chance of signing him.

Furthermore, there were claims that even if he does not commit, Liverpool will have to pay close to £200m for Isak. https://www.rousingthekop.com/2025/06/2 ... nder-isak/

According to Bailey, though, this is likely to be a little bit of posturing on Newcastle’s end. The journalist says while it would cost another British record to sign the 25-year-old, a final deal could come in at a maximum of £130m.
Obviously the British record has been broken by Liverpool now, and the offer would have to be similar to get Isak out of Newcastle, but it is distinctly possible,
Bailey claims.
I believe a deal could be done at £120-130m, but that would have to be on the back of him rejecting a contract offer. Liverpool are still doing work on other targets as well.
