No one noticed this observation I have had ever since PFDJ and TPLF’s realignment.
When Abiy pulled his army out of Mekelle, he did it without consulting his then partner Isayas. He didn’t even notify him.
His calculation was to leave a weakened TPLF alone so he can later repurpose and use it against Isayas. This thinking, or a version of it, had been advocated publicly by the hate filled propagandist Tamra Negera: ሻብያን ይዘህ ወያኔን አጥፋ፣ ከዛ ሻብያን አጥፋ.
It’s amazing to me to witness the extreme lack of strategic thinking by both Abiy and Isayas. Isayas didn’t hide his displeasure when “Abiy saved TPLF” publicity lamenting ተኮሊፍና.
But now Isayas must be extremely happy TPLF survived because he knows Abiy can not threaten Eritrea without TPLF on his side. Why Isayas didn’t see this ahead tells me he lacks strategic depth.
Likewise Abiy lacks strategic depth. His decision to leave Mekelle and hence save TPLF from total destruction in order to later use it to go after Isayas (FANO, OLA ) backfired all over his evil face.
They both miscalculated. What they thought was against their interest at the time turned out to be in their interest. Isn’t it scary to have millions and millions of people being led by a bunch of such rulers who lack basic knowledge in political strategy?!

Abiy didn't pull out his army voluntarily. His defeated army was in disarray, scattering and fleeing in all directions after their loss. In simple word , Abiy's army was defeated.
