Parliament green lights new controversial law

The Reporter

The Ethiopian Parliament approved a draft law aimed at combating the financing of terrorism and the concealment of property obtained through criminal means. However, the legislation has sparked widespread debate and concern among lawmakers, civil society groups, and international observers.

The new law, endorsed during a session held on June 17th, grants authorities broad powers to interrogate suspects using all available methods, excluding killing.

Critics argue that this provision could be used as a tool to suppress dissent and silence civil society. Many fear the law will be weaponized against political opponents, rights groups, journalists, businesspeople, and other segments of society.

The problem with you is that your references are all discredited news outlets.

The Reporter has been identified as an entity with a vested interest in the Woyane era, the same as the YouTube channel Ethioforum, the same as Jawar Mohammed, the same as the guy in the name of Elias Messeret.

All are discredited in the public opinion in Ethiopia.

Try to look for other disguising source of information next!

It seems you like to shoot the messenger. "ከግድያ ወንጀል በስተቀር ለሚፈጽመው የወንጀል ድርጊት የወንጀል ክስ አይቀርብበትም" is "ከግድያ ወንጀል በስተቀር ለሚፈጽመው የወንጀል ድርጊት የወንጀል ክስ አይቀርብበትም" whether BBC, report it or EBC reporter it. Have your favorite news agent covered the new bill? If they haven't, does that mean the bill doesn't exist?

Can you list all ከግድያ ወንጀል በስተቀር ያሉ የወንጀል ድርጊቶች?

Are you kidding me? Derg started it, your Tplf improved it by raping prisoners, pulling their nails, and hanging heavy water bottles on their private part while they insert wood in the women’s genitals, not to mention the killings, silent and psychological torture by your Tplf.

Did Derg and TPLF say these acts are legal? Abiy is saying "everything and anything except killing" is legal! Ethiopia has taken a turn for the worse!

Here's a political prisoner under TPLF and later under Abiy comparing both regimes.

What did I deny? I don't think you really read my post. Did I say Derg & TPLF regimes didn't commit those crimes? I just pointed out that Abiy's gone another level. He is saying the crimes you listed are not actually crimes. They are legal acts. What did you think I meant when I said the following? "

Torture is prohibited under international law.

Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states; “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.”

The UN Convention Against Torture came into force on 26 June 1987.
It requires countries to take active steps to prevent torture and declares: “No exceptional circumstances whatsoever, whether a state of war or a threat of war, internal political instability or any other public emergency, may be invoked as a justification of torture.”
