The new law, endorsed during a session held on June 17th, grants authorities broad powers to interrogate suspects using all available methods, excluding killing.

It seems you like to shoot the messenger. "ከግድያ ወንጀል በስተቀር ለሚፈጽመው የወንጀል ድርጊት የወንጀል ክስ አይቀርብበትም" is "ከግድያ ወንጀል በስተቀር ለሚፈጽመው የወንጀል ድርጊት የወንጀል ክስ አይቀርብበትም" whether BBC, report it or EBC reporter it. Have your favorite news agent covered the new bill? If they haven't, does that mean the bill doesn't exist?

Can you list all ከግድያ ወንጀል በስተቀር ያሉ የወንጀል ድርጊቶች?

Did Derg and TPLF say these acts are legal? Abiy is saying "everything and anything except killing" is legal! Ethiopia has taken a turn for the worse!

Torture is prohibited under international law.

The UN Convention Against Torture came into force on 26 June 1987. It requires countries to take active steps to prevent torture and declares: “No exceptional circumstances whatsoever, whether a state of war or a threat of war, internal political instability or any other public emergency, may be invoked as a justification of torture.”
