But where lies the divide?

Post by DefendTheTruth » 18 Jun 2025, 13:09

It could be very much interesting to know where the dividing line runs.

We now know Abiy Ahmed has both supporters and very much also vocal opponents? But I think we didn't try to draw where exactly the line of the divide between the two sets runs.

I remember how the late Prof. Mesefin Woldemariam described Abiy Ahmed, during the early days of his (Abiy's) ascent to power as head of government. The Prof. said "I couldn't imagine to have seen anybody else that could be equal to Abiy when it comes to the level of brilliance" or something very similar.

One can argue Abiy could be as brilliant or not as Prof. described him but no one can seriously deny the level of intellectual authority the Prof. had in the country. He was one of the top tier academicians in the country and as such his words should carry certain level of authority, I think.

My point here is not if Abiy is smart or not, but about those who ardently support him and equally oppose him.

Who support Abiy and who oppose him?

The more somebody is an idiot, the more likely that somebody is also his opponent, in the same token the more somebody is smart in Ethiopia the more likely that somebody also support Abiy's political program in Ethiopia.

The line of divide can also in so far be drawn to run between the set of idiots and that of smart citizens.

If you still have a doubt about this, then just look at the intelligence profiles of those supporters and detractors of Abiy on this forum a sample.

If you are dumb, then you are going to bark at Abiy all day long is the rule of the thumb.
