The Three Enemies of Oromummaa Are Dying in Turn!
By Fayyis Oromia*
There is no question that the three enemies of Oromummaa are:
- Assimilative Amhara elites
- Hegemonist Tigrayan elites
- Assimilated Oromo elites
As the Oromo were fighting against the hegemonist Woyane regime, we planned our movement systematically. Our first goal was to defeat the powerful Woyane by cooperating with all anti-TPLF forces, including the potentially dangerous, backward-looking Naftagnas. Thanks to Abiy Ahmed’s misguided approach, Woyane is now gone—never to return. However, this same approach allowed the Naftagna to organize and militarize themselves as Abiy’s allies.
This is why we must now confront these nostalgic forces who long to reclaim the Finfinne Palace. Surely, the Naftagna will soon be history. Once we are free of both the Naftagna and Woyane, we can finally focus on defeating the ruling Hybrid elites—those who insist on maintaining Amharanet/Amarigna dominance rather than elevating Oromiffa/Oromummaa to its rightful, leading position in Ethiopia.
Oromummaa is growing—slowly but surely—as a leading identity and a core component of Ethiopiawinet, representing at least 40% of the country. The Oromo Republicans in OFC and OLF are its main promoters. The three forces currently obstructing the promotion of Oromummaa are:
- The severely weakened assimilative Amhara elites
- The recently defeated Tigrayan hegemonists
- The currently ruling hybrid Oromo elites, with their slave mentality.
For 150 years, the assimilative Amhara elites did everything in their power to destroy Oromummaa and promote Amharanet/Amarigna. The Tigrayan hegemonists had a chance to end Amharanet dominance and promote Oromummaa, but they chose otherwise. And now, an enslaved segment of the Oromo elite, led by Dr. Abiy, reveres Amharanet instead of honoring Oromummaa—thus maintaining the existing hegemony.
This is why Abiy’s Ethiopia mirrors Menelik’s Ethiopia—it is Amapia, an Amharanet-dominated state. But soon, the Oromo Republicans will rise to power in the Finfinne Palace and promote Oromummaa to its rightful, leading position. The future Ethiopia will become Oropia—a state led by Oromummaa.
Abiy’s Mistake and the Rise of Jawar
Influenced by the cries of the Neo-Naftagna, Abiy Ahmed made a critical mistake by imprisoning Oromo freedom fighters. With this action, he lost the support of at least 90% of the Oromo. Today, he survives politically only with the backing of the Neo-Naftagna and the 10% of Oromo elites who continue to revere Amharanet instead of Oromummaa.
The current struggle is between Abiy’s Prosperitan Bloc and Jawar’s Republican Camp. Jawar is clearly emerging as the de facto integrative leader of the Oromo opposition (OFC and OLF). The support he receives from both Oromo leaders and the people shows he is ready to lead.
Obbo Daud and Dr. Marara should unite their organizations under one umbrella—Oromian Republican Party (ORP)—and pass leadership to the younger generation led by Jawar. Jawar, in turn, must work to reintegrate the OLA (Oromo Liberation Army) and strengthen the opposition against the anti-Oromummaa Prosperitans in the upcoming election.
A Call for Unity and Clarity
I am writing this letter to you—our genuine nationalist leaders—after observing years of efforts by Oromo nationalists, including my own, to help unify our liberation forces. I know you are doing your best under difficult circumstances, and I thank you for that. But we are at a breaking point. The Oromo people are restless. We are in a historically critical moment.
We do not need to revisit the last 150 years of subjugation or the sacrifices of our heroes and heroines—those stories are well known. My focus is only one: Unity of Oromoness for Freedom and Sovereignty.
Division as a Tool of Oppression
Our national subjugation began with internal division—when our ancestors abandoned unity under the Gadaa system in favor of monarchy and feudal rivalry. The Abyssinian elites exploited this division using divide-and-rule tactics. Today, the Neo-Naftagna use the same strategy, both online (through cyber-forums, Facebook, PalTalk, etc.) and in our communities by infiltrating as fake Oromo nationalists.
Their most destructive tool is the propagation of the so-called “irreconcilable difference of goals” among Oromo liberation groups: Ethiopian democratization vs. Oromian decolonization.
It is not our enemies’ manipulation that hurts most—it’s hearing our own leaders echoing the same narrative, fighting each other instead of uniting against the common enemy.
No Irreconcilable Goals—Only Different Methods
I’ve argued extensively in my writings: there is no real difference in objectives among Oromo liberation groups. What exists are differences in methods—and sometimes, emotional or personal attitudes among leaders.
Our collective goal is freedom for Oromia and the Oromo people. Whether achieved through “legal” opposition (e.g., elections) or “illegal” rebellion (e.g., armed struggle), the paths are complementary, not contradictory.
We should stop arguing over independence vs. union. That decision belongs to the people, through referendum, after we achieve freedom. Freedom must come first—then sovereignty will follow based on public will.
A United Front Is Essential
We are a nation of 60 million, yet still subjugated. One major reason is the fragmentation of our liberation fronts. Our “mini-lions” are ineffective when divided. But united under one “adult lion,” we can gain both battlefield strength and international diplomatic respect. World politics respects power, and we need one powerful Oromo Republican party.
Some mini-lions are now reuniting. We—the supporters of unity—are eagerly awaiting full unification. Our enemies are still trying to sow division, even using misguided Oromo elites to further their cause.
Let me be clear: if your stated differences are only about methods or emotional attitudes, that is not justification for division. If the problem is mistrust, build trust. If the problem is ego or self-interest, that must be condemned. Leaders who prioritize self-interest over national interest are not fit to lead.
Final Call to Action
Dear leaders, the Oromo people are facing one of the most critical challenges in our history. We need effective leadership now more than ever. I call on you to finalize your discussions and take unified action. You have come together and kept together—now it’s time to work together.
Please:
Merge all factions into one Oromo Republican Party (ORP)
Compete effectively with Abiy’s EPP in the upcoming elections
Forge alliances with other oppressed groups and democratic Habesha forces
You are not emotional, reactive politicians—you are thoughtful strategists who understand that tactical autonomy, core independence, and strategic union are all part of one unified Oromo vision. Choose your timing wisely based on current political realities.
Let your reunification be the foundation for a stronger Oromummaa. Let it help the grassroots overcome past schisms. Only united can we win. Divided, we will fall deeper into subjugation. The future is in your hands. We must be dynamic freedom fighters, not passive victims.
Form the ORP under Jawar’s leadership. Face down Abiy’s anti-Oromummaa bloc with courage and unity.
May Wàqa bless you and the Oromo nation you serve.
Galatooma!
