Displaced Protesters Storm Tigray President’s Office
TIGRAY — Hundreds of displaced Tigrayans staged a protest today, demanding their right to return to their home located in areas contested with the Amhara region.
Many of the demonstrators have spent over four years living in makeshift shelters. Frustrated by the lack of progress, they stormed the office of Lt. Gen. Tadesse Werede, the Interim President of the Tigray regional administration.
Protesters accuse Tadesse Werede's administration of neglecting their plight and failing to take concrete steps toward resolving the issue of displacement.
Tadesse, who replaced Getachew Reda earlier this year, is facing growing criticism both from the public and within the TPLF over what is widely seen as a slow and ineffective approach to governance.
Observers say his inability to address even basic issues is fueling doubts about his leadership, with some warning that his tenure may end no differently than that of his predecessor.
