This travel ban on Eritrean nationals, might actually work in Eritrea’s favor from a strategic point of view.

As many of us already know, a lot of migrants from the Horn of Africa falsely claim Eritrean identity to get asylum in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. That now comes into a halt with this ban.

The ban also helps slow down the brain drain, since even skilled and educated Eritreans have been exploiting loopholes in UNHCR’s preferential asylum process for Eritreans.

Since the Trump travel ban doesn’t affect diplomatic or professional travel, however it may sound bad in the media, it actually serves Eritrea’s interests.

Whatever happens, Eritrea’s priority remains its relationships to the East and the Gulf.

How can a country without viable universities have skilled workers? Brain drain, OMG! You’re killing me here, bro.
