Rather than strengthening democratic institutions, the Prosperity Party has presided over one of Ethiopia’s most turbulent periods, marked by conflict, political repression, and suppression of civil liberties. The party’s promise of prosperity has become a mechanism for control, silencing dissent while consolidating power under Abiy Ahmed and his loyalists.
The rise and decline of the Prosperity Party is a reflection of missed opportunities and political ambitions overtaking national interests. Ethiopia stands at a crossroads, facing a choice: continue down the path of authoritarianism or restore democratic governance and inclusivity.
Until Ethiopia prioritizes justice, human dignity, and political transparency, the dream of prosperity will remain an illusion, buried beneath repression and growing.
