If you would expect enlightenment out of one Ethiopian leader from living in exile for five years during the Second World War, I would say you are hugely mistaken and hugely misinformed.

If anything, the short time exposure may have given him a chance for introspection about Ethiopia’s civilization, like many other thinkers about the power of reason.

Arguably, Thomas Jefferson was more enlightened than the British Monarchy. By definition, enlightenment informed the monarchy and faith institutions in Europe about the power of reason.
