Until 1990, China was a Third World country with a population of 900 million people experiencing widespread famine due to chronic poverty caused by uncontrolled population growth.
The Chinese people and their government never bragged about their population size which they saw as a curse that put strain on their meager resources. Instead, in 1975 they implemented a "One Child" policy that prevented around 400 million births until the policy ended in 2015.
In Ethiopia, having an uncontrolled population growth is seen as a blessing, because the more people they have, the more food aid they receive.
