I theorize that Mesqan is chosen because of its (1)geographic centrality between East and West and North and South;

Thanks for the information. My support of Amhara cause does not come from my being Amharanized or anything. It is a matter of Justice. The same for my support of any other ethnics if I happen to support. I strongly believe Gurage has to organized itself in whatever from Ethiopia exists. Gurage is getting fragmented and losing land etc because it worshiped the country like Amhara and did not focus much on home. So, I support that idea, but I don't think there will be any self-capable Gurage political entity able to stand by itself will rise soon. It will be a subordinated group with whoever is ruling in the center that will rule Gurage, and they should use even that to the region's advantage. Which means the leaders should be centered on their people but not on their belly.
Now, follow the latest post of Horus the merchant[link]. Horus is exposed too much with time. Now in his post you see how the Sodo are trying to develop their own language and how selfish they are. We have clearly understood that the so called Sodo Gurage is hardly Gurage. They just want to snatch the Gurage name, culture and go their own way or if they can snatch the Gurage trademark and hope all Gurage to follow them. That was what I was suspecting and that is confirmed.

Gurage does not lose lands without murders, beatings, imprisonments, arsons and miscarriages of justices.

If this common language project lasts, it will be understood by most Gurages at which time it can be used for Gurage administration, media, and as a medium of instruction for primary school subjects, may be upto Grade 6. Then, the language may be taken as a course upto Grade 12. Then, a major or a minor in Gurage universties and colleges.

At this time, the use of other dialects wild diminish and Gurage will have one dominant language of gov, admin, commerce, health, education and media just like Amharic, Tigrinya, Oromofa, Somali, etc. This is how High German, the official language of Germany came to be. It used to be one dilalect out of many German dialects.

Resistance to a Common Gurage Language is very obvious. Researchers showed that each dialect groups chose their dialect to be the common language of Gurage. This is due to the fact that we lived apart for too long without a common center. But, we practiced almost identical cultures and very closely related dialects. Each Gurage dialect is closer to the other than they are to Amharic, Tigrinya, Argobinya or Harari. And all of them exist within a continuum of space, contiguous to each other. We are all one ethnic group separated by time and life, not by space.

Dialect groups have the right and the choice to cling to their dialects even after a well developed Common Gurage Language. If need be they will be supported to develop and kerp it by Gurage administration if they so wish. There is no plan to kill any Gurage dialects. Indeed, it will be illegal and unconstitutional.

The Common Gurage Language is to retain the collective heritage and experiences of Gurage in one languag and unite Gurage.

Understood. But in long term, it is very likely, the common language selected for writing and education will dominate and after a generation may erase the initial dialect. I believe that is why Sodo's don't want to use Meskan. Horus tells us he understands Meskan and Dobi to say we don't need Meskan because our dialect is close. Whatever the rationalization is, Sodo is not ready to take Meskan; for me they are so proud of what they are and they want the rest of Gurage to mirror itself like Sodo As far as their dialect is left intact, they should not have been an outlier and create a precedence for other dialects as all other dialects are proud of their dialect too.

For me, I just see language mostly as a communication tool. I would not care if all regions kept and nurtured their dialect. However, there should be a common language for communication like Amharic or English which should be given may be from elementary school [I strongly believe in that for technological, innovative and business advancement. Gurage should achieve 100% literacy, good skill in most spoken languages both at national and international stage; develop business, science, technology and innovation skill to be competitive].

Learning more common languages is helpful to communicate at national or internation stage. I am not a linguist but how suppressing dialects and introducing one dialect may help. May be just to bring people together and preserve identity.

If the Gurage regional leaders are bright, they should work to diffuse any grudges among small groups in the region to forge unity. They should be exemplary in good administration and development in the area and perhaps impress Silte too. They should try to befriend Silte to see if they could come back to the old unity with a better democratic union and privilege for them. One should not give up on them that easy. I am sure they are afraid of dominance but if they are promised for a better union, they may change their minds.

Glad you accepted my correction to the fake news. Sodo is rather a full participant in the Common Gurage Language project.
