In the past, Somaliland’s leaders, upon their inauguration, have traditionally regarded Ethiopia as an important country to visit. This established practice has been a notable trend over the years. However, the newly inaugurated President Abdurahman appears to diverge from this precedent. His recent diplomatic itinerary, encompassing visits first to the United Arab Emirates, then Djibouti, and presently Kenya, suggests a marked shift in priorities. It seems Ethiopia no longer commands the same significance in his foreign policy considerations, with Kenya now occupying a more prominent position. This is perhaps unsurprising given Kenya’s considerable strides in economic development and regional influence indeed.
