TIGRAY ― In a 2024 town hall meeting held in Tigray, the then President of Tigray Ato Getachew Reda said (video below) ,
"During and after the war, General Tadesse Worrede and I were receiving daily briefings of the worse kind of rape crimes committed by our own Tigrayan brothers against our Tigrayan sisters.
What was troubling was, the rape crimes that started during the war did not stop after the war had ended.
Some TPLF leaders expressed concerns that, if the international community were to find out that our own people were committing the rape crimes, we could lose their food aid and military support. Even worse, our enemies (Ethiopians and Eritreans) could feel vindicated if the truth comes out.
This being the fact, we should no longer run away from the truth to avoid accepting responsibility and holding our own brothers accountable for the rape crimes. We cannot talk about reforms without acknowledging this painful fact. Our Tigrayan sisters deserve justice, not a politically motivated cover up." --- (Tigray's former President Ato Getachew Reda.)
