As conditions for providing loans, the IMF and The World Bank require a country requesting loans to implement structural adjustment programs, such as currency devaluation to make the country's resources very cheap for foreign investors, effectively placing the country at the hands of foreign companies affiliated with the IMF and The World Bank, in a phenomenon known as Neo-colonialism.

This is the official rate. But hardly anyone uses it. The blackmarkate rate is 1 USD = 159 Birr. That means, a physician whose salary is 10,000 birr is getting $64.

Ethiopia defaulted on its debt because it was unable to make the $33 million interest payment on its $68.9 billion dollars debt.
There are an estimated 10 million Ethiopians in the Diaspora, and if each one of them were to give $3.30, Ethiopia can stay current on its debt. And if they were to give $6,900 each, they could pay off all of Ethiopia's $68.9 billion dollar debt.
But as the saying goes, it's easier to squeeze dried up paste out of an empty toothpaste tube than to squeeze money out of *******
