As Addis expanded, more trees were cut and farmers relocated. This is one reason, anywhere in the world, why deforestation happens. Now tgat Sheger city is being built means many trees would be cut and farms relocated.
The second reason, you are right, is the tree surrounding Addis are used for house constructions and cooking in Addis. These woods used for construction and firewood bought from the farmers and used in Addis. Some of them are culvated eucalyptus while some are wild trees but on private lands, because of it you still have to pay the land owner to cut the trees. The lumber traders do not get them free. They buy the trees. They cut, dry them this season to sell them next season in Addis. Some become very rich.
