The acronyms NOAA and NWS are for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service of the U.S., respectively.
Laudato Si’ is an elaborate Encyclical released in June 2015 by the late Pope Francis to deal with the climate crisis.
Both NOAA and NWS have been reputable organizations in their expertise about meteorology and climate science.
The late Pope’s Encyclical that was released nearly ten years ago explicitly states that “… the Church does not presume to settle scientific questions…”
If my memory serves me correctly, it also included something to the effect that we have insufficient knowledge about climate science.
In recent news, some meteorologists in the NWS are leaving this government agency as part of government efficiency actions by the current U.S. Administration.
It is unclear at this time if the upcoming Pope would carry on the legacy of Laudato Si’ of the late Pope in order to gain better scientific insights about the climate crisis.
The attribution of climate change to natural variability and human made causes remains an interesting frontier of research. This suggests that experienced meteorologists of both NOAA and NWS might benefit from a new frontier of research about the predictability of meteorological variability.
A peer reviewed paper at the following link may be a helpful reference for both experienced and upcoming meteorologists in this endeavor:
