Both parties had no idea what they were signing in Pretoria when Mike Hammer presented them with documents he prepared in the English language for them to sign without having certified interpreters present to translate the documents into Oromiffa and Tigrinya languages for both parties.
There's a taboo against Ethiopian politicians asking for translations that makes them appear less educated, because in our Ethiopian society a person's intelligence is measured by the person's excellent command of the English language. The agreement was deemed a "success" for the simple fact that the documents were prepared in the English language.
