Abiy had two strategies againt Tigray: namely, (a), 360 degrees encirclement of Tigray [ክባ] and, (b) blockade [ዕጽዋ]. Pretoria Agreement addressed the blockade element. But, Tigray continued to be encircled by 360 degrees until now. Eritrea has just declared that "Tigray is no more encircled by 360 degrees!" freeing 180 degrees.

Abiy has continued to occupy Western Tigray in defiance of his Pretoria Agreement commitments to stop Tigray from having access to third party / Sudan, enforcing the 360 degrees encirclement of Tigray. Eritrea has now invalidated that strategy by declaring the 180 degrees borderline friendly territory. Abiy's continued to occupation of Western Tigray is now strategically pointless.

I can guess tomorrow's Wedi Waqjira's theme, የጽምዶ / rapprochement ትርፋቶች and he will talk about how Tigray helped to stop the brewing war Abiy was hopping to make him the Greatest King who brought Red Sea back. (ብዘይ ጥይት ኲናት ከነትርፍ ኢና ድዮ ዝበላ ኣወል?)

In my view Amhara Fano is the true answer to all the ills in the region and will emerge as a pacifier giving the needed peace for all the population in the region.

People have been, still are and will always be divided in supporting different ideas. What matters when you analyze power politics is the actions of the main actors / decision makers who wield enormous influence with hard and soft power.

Gebru Asrat, for example, started saying that Tigray should not be talking to Shaebia etc etc. But after the interviewer pressed him with difficult 'what if' question, he ended up saying that it is right for Tigray to talk with Eritrean government. Some people feel ashamed to make 180 degrees turn in public. But many will come around eventually.

The region will not pacify without involving Amara Fano. Let's see how that comes about as Fano address their challenges methodically.

In regards to welkait, although there are several reasons why it's unlikely to go to tigray, the Amara made it clear that it's their land. They won't leave and abiy, to be honest, cannot force them to do so. He can make the endf withdraw but the fano forces won't go after all that occurred there. At best, tigray can negotiate with them in regards to the IDPs returning while accepting that it's part of Amara kilil. Otherwise, what's the alternative? More never ending wars there? Tigray cannot afford more wars. Ethiopia itself cannot, but the ruling elites never minded that....

It is too obvious, Woyane-Tigre believes Tigray is a country, not an integral part of Ethiopia. According to the Woyane-Tigre, the so-called Algiers Agreement is an agreement between Tigray and Eritrea; and the Pretoria tripartite deal (Hammer, OLF, Woyane) is an agreement between Tigray and the other two (OLF-PP and Mike Hammer). In both cases, Tigray is considered as a country Let's hypothetically think of the Pretoria fake and sh!t deal, cannot Ethiopia has the 100% right to fully override Pretoria as Tigray is one of the provinces of Ethiopia and all intra-province boundary to be seen in terms of administrative convenience or spurring economic development? Simply, given the secessionist goal of Tigre-Woyane, Welqait, Humera and Raya are not just only the redline for Amhara but also for the larger Ethiopia. Territory and boundary should not be any matter of Tigre-Woyane for Tigary is a province. These lands mean redline for Ethiopians, just not only for Amhara. Shabia-Eritrea colluding with Woyane on this redline issue means, Eritrea will face the full force of Ethiopia and her fake independence will flush down the toilet.
