For some political groups in Ethiopia these days, their perilous obsession continues to revolve around futile packaging - sometimes too crass and couched in aggressive sabre-rattling; at other times advocated with seemingly historical/legal sophistry - to rationalize the toxic agenda of coveting and grabbing the sovereign territory of a neighbouring nation.
Let us stress, for the umpteenth time, that this is a political blashphemy of the highest order, and a red line that should never be contemplated or crossed.

Africa’s debt crisis demands urgent action. We need:
• A reformed global debt system:
• A multilateral sovereign debt workout mechanism.
• A Global Debt Authority.
• A fairer, faster G20 Common Framework.
• Less dependence on biased credit ratings.
• More debt-for-development swaps aligned with national goals.
Financing for Development, must deliver solutions. Africa’s future depends on it.

"Pope Francis made significant contributions to Africa, including emphasizing the importance of the continent within the Catholic Church, advocating for peace and reconciliation in conflict-ridden areas, and promoting a more decentralized and culturally relevant Catholicism.”
H.E. Sophia Tesfamariam, PR of Eritrea to @UN on behalf of African Union Tribute to the memory of His Holiness Pope Francis.
All in a days work...Met with @ECA_OFFICIAL ES @claverGatete & discussed Africa's priorities @UN. Seemed impressed with Eritrea's chosen development path, and efforts to achieve food security, water security, climate mitigation and more.
Also participated in a Side Event: Africa Priorities for the FfD4 where Claver Gatete set the stage for the discussions on issues such as the growing debt crisis and ensuring effective and sovereign domestic resource mobilization, the negotiation of the @UN Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation, addressing Illicit financial flows etc.
At the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) in Seville, Spain, Africa is hoping to secure concrete and binding commitments that have remained elusive in past FfD conferences (Monterrey 2002, Doha 2008, Addis Ababa 2015). This presents an opportunity to shift the conversation from aid dependency to financial sovereignty.
The message from the panelists was unequivocal: FfD4 must transition from promises to tangible action, from unequal frameworks to true accountability, and from charity to transformative, structural change. Failing to do so would represent a missed opportunity to create a just and resilient global financial system that serves all nations equitably.
Met with H.E Mahmoud Hmoud, PR of Jordan. Discussed issues of mutual concern: credibility, efficacy & reform of UN, the future of multilateralism, sovereign rights & international law. Agreed 2 support & collaborate with each other @UN and strengthen Eritrea- Jordan relations. @AmbStesfamariam

Eye surgery was successfully performed on 240 patients at Massawa Hospital on 26 April. The program was carried out in collaboration with Eritrean experts from the Ministry of Health branch in the Northern Red Sea Region, Massawa Hospital, and the 'Cure Blindness' ophthalmology group. The beneficiaries were patients from the sub-zones of Gelalo, Foro, and Massawa.
Dr. Eyob Beyene, an eye surgery expert and coordinator of the program, stated that this initiative was a continuation of similar surgeries previously conducted in the sub-zones of Nakfa, Afabet, and Ghinda.
Dr. Zemui Mekonnen, Medical Director of Massawa Hospital, noted that a survey had been conducted in the sub-zones prior to the surgeries, and highlighted that the program was successfully implemented owing to the strong commitment of the medical professionals and the full cooperation of local administrations.
Dr. Mengis Baire, coordinator of the 'Cure Blindness' ophthalmology group, noted that the expansion of the project over the past two years—from being confined to Asmara to reaching remote areas of the country—has achieved commendable results. He also emphasized that the fact the program was fully implemented by Eritrean experts is a double-fold victory.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the opportunity provided.
It is worth recalling that similar surgeries were carried out for 539 patients at Nakfa, Ghinda, and Afabet hospitals.
