Khat was banned in Tigray while it was encouraged in the rest of Ethiopia. 27 years of abuse in the area i grew up which is Bete Amhara Wollo is visible. TPLF walked without any resistance 4 years ago while the Bete Amhara youth were just sitting and chewing khat. We didn't see that effect in Gondar where cultural conservatisim is better and strict

When I grew up as a child, Khat chewing was a Muslim matter (they said they use coffee and Khat for concentration). When a Christian chewed Khat, people will ask him "have you become a Muslim [that is where I grew up as child]?". Even coffee consumption, except the coffee producing areas was not that popular. Meles Zenawi, partly because of large profit from the cash crop, popularized Khat the use of which was limited to lower class. TPLF soldiers were rumored to use substance. Derg considered it damaging. Now almost everybody including women indulge in it. This thing is labeled as a substance and not allowed to be imported in many western countries. It is a substance although a cash crop. The word "JEZBA" is attached to it to probably characterize its psychedelic effects. TPLF allowed pimping and substance use to trap the youth. Colonel Abiy's prosperity has done the same. Worsened poverty, substance use and prostitution. I would not be surprised if Fano restricts some of these things to focus on its objective. That is not necessarily a religious fanatism. Khat should either be banned forever or place a heavy tax on it to discourage its abuse. Alcohol is obvious. It would have been best to regulate it but did not happen even in rich countries. It only stands next to smoking with regard to its ill effect on human health. As we know Fano has stayed most ethical freedom group so far. The ethno-fascists will not yield on Fano without turning all stones. This may be one attempt.

I accept Fano's verdict and the totality of their good intentions for their society.

Their verdict on the liquor business woman was that she was socially irresponsible by selling liquor to minors under the legally permitted age to consume liquor.

Worse, this illegal sale of liquor sold to the minors was consumed in her house, in her presence, served by her.

Fano did not declare sale and consumption of alcohol to adults illegal.

Alcohol is big business around tge world. However, it has been shown to affect good judgement resulting in violence, workplace and road accidents. It is also proven that it causes different kinds of cancers such as liver cancer. Associated health costs are high. Chrisyainity does not forbid but Islam forbods its consumption.
