Tesfanews,

I have a book (I forgot the author) by a late 1800s traveler of Harar and in that he collected 100s of Aderegna (Harari) word and I was able to match about 20% with Guragegna. But one distinct culture we actually share with them. Hararis just had what they call Shawal Eid. It is the a celebration and festival of engagement for girls and young men of marriage age.

In Gurage we call it Adabina and it happens on Meskel Holiday. The very word 'Shewal' in Aderegna is called 'Sheval, Shebal' in Guragegna. The literal meaning is 'Wedding fesitval or Wedding Feast'. I find this to be very important. In terms some key linguistic elements, for example we say 'gie

Correction, you are referring Sodo gurage/kistane as gurage. Gurage is a big society and kistane may be a subset. Sodo gurage may understand አደሬ but not necessarly all gurage. Yes, there may be some culture and even blood relation among these people, silte included but both Silte and Hadere are brutally clannish while gurage is diffusive and lost all over the country becoming more Ethiopian than others except Amhara which cost both terribly.
I thought ሻዋል is a muslim word. They even have a fast known as ሻዋሌ that follows their ኢድ. I knew it that way for long among the gurage muslims at least.

Odie, you are very very close to the truth. Shawal is name of the month after Ramadan. Not a requirement but recommended to fast in the first one week of Shawal. I do not know it as celebaration other the name of month after Ramadan.
The sound made by V does not exist in all of south semtic languages or Ethiopic languages. There could not be a "Sheval" as pagan Horus lied.
