At the invitation of the Government of the State of Eritrea, on the 3rd and 4th of April 2025, Ms. Rita Laranjinha, the EEAS’s Managing Director for Africa and Mr. Jonas Jonsson, the Horn of Africa Head of Division, visited Asmara to hold high-level discussions with key interlocutors, focusing on regional, economic and human rights issues.
During the visit, the MD for Africa met with H.E. Minister Osman Mohammed Saleh, Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Minister Yemane Ghebremeskel, Minister of Information, and Mr. Hagos Ghebrehiwet, Economic Advisor of the PFDJ. The MD for Africa also engaged with the resident EU MS, US, UK, Egypt, Turkey, South Africa and other international partners such as the UN agencies and Total Energies.
The main objective of the visit was to exchange views with Eritrean leaders on how to develop the relationship between the European Union and Eritrea. Different options to continue the dialogue were identified to the start of broader discussions on the involvement with the State of Eritrea.
This visit was also an opportunity for rich discussions with the delegation staff.

Ambassador Fishatsion Petros Holds Talks with Swedish Officials
Eritrean Ambassador to the Republic of Italy and non-resident Ambassador to the Kingdom of Sweden, Mr. Fishatsion Petros, held talks with various senior Swedish officials, from April 3 to 10, in Stockholm.
During the meetings, Ambassador Fishatsion discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest with Ms. Maria Malmer Stenergard, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Mikael Lindvall, Director General of Global Affairs; and Ms. Sofia Östmark, Head of the Department of Refugees.
It is to be recalled that Ambassador Fishatsion had delivered a seminar to leaders of Eritrean community organizations from Scandinavian countries, focusing on objective situation in the homeland, as well as regional and global issues and their implications.

Received H.E. Mr. Domingos Estêvão Fernandes, PR of Mozambique @Eritrea_UN. Discussed global/regional devts. As nations forged through valiant liberation struggles, we have unique histories to share. Agreed 2 strengthen cooperation @UN & enhance Eritrea-Mozambique relations.

I had the pleasure of paying a courtesy visit to H.E. Ambassador Motaz Mounir Zahran at the Embassy of Egypt in Washington DC. We held constructive discussions on a wide range of bilateral and regional issues, including developments in our region and the Red Sea area.
We identified specific areas of cooperation and agreed to coordinate the efforts and resources of our respective embassies in DC to further advance the shared interests of Eritrea and Egypt in promoting peace, stability, and mutual development. @EmbassyEritrea

Mr. Dessale Tecleab Berhane, Consul General of Eritrea to Angola, held a productive meeting with Ms. Isabel Paula de Castro, Director General of State Protocol at Angola's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Accompanied by Mr. Bereket Afwerki, Chairman of the Eritrean community in Angola, they discussed strengthening bilateral relations and matters concerning Eritreans living in Angola. @shurinti
