A useless old tradition brought back by ethnofascists to brainwash the mass and to make sure they stay in power. Woke politics. This is kind of similar to አሽንዳ::There is another one called ወያ ቡኖ also girls event. Some of this rituals open their mind to bad spirits like መየት::

I don’t like these events. Their bringing back can not and should not replace girl/women empowerment in business education and employment. Our society needs to learn how to win life, simplification of daily life, technology. The rest is a lie. Gathering young girls and make them dance for a ritual is one thing; giving them chances in life is another thing. The bashash drifter, all liberation fronts want to focus on this while they steal and kill. Anything that unites people. Any event that takes people out of their homes and meet members of the community, doing something in unity is very important for social cohesion, learning from each other, developing professional or business network, reduction or elimination non-comforming behaviors to social values.

These cultural revival movements are not specific to Ethiopia only. They are happening all across Africa, tye Americas, Europe and Asia. Including languages revival and documentation of languages on death rows. Also prevention of languages from death by starting to write them and teaching them to new generations. I think these cultural and linguastic revival have been mandated by UNESCO. Members states do it as an obligation. TPLF may have done to get UNESCO money.

I don’t personally like it. That is shear like. That is a way of killing a nation. Another way of colonization. They let the worms out and ethnics enter in forever fighting and the state fails or disintegrates.

A way of decolonization, according to UNESCO think. Colonizers and empires only promoted their languages and cultures while supressing and outright illegalizing cultures and languages of the colonized.

In Canada, native children found speaking their language in school campuses, were dismissed from school, put in dark rooms for days, denied meals, flogged, etc. The same or similar punishment if they practiced their cultures.
The British, French, Arabs, Spanish, Portuguese carried same or similar suppressions of cultures and languages of the conquered innAfrica and Asia.

I am not aware of Menelick insisting on Amara language and culture supremacy as an official policy but sure did Haile Sellasie(1965 suggested by Jews of the Ford Foundation), Menge and Meles in a slightly different way. Both kept Amara culture and language supremacy, Meles even legalizing Amharic's official.language status the first time in history. At the same time, these two allowed other Ethiopian cultures and languages to be practiced and enjoyed.
Diversity in action! It's a good thing.

I know a history professor from Endegany at UCLA who did his PhD on the history of the Tigre tribe of Eritrea. Of course, I regret he did that.
