Yes, you are right in that Enor has not taken advantage of Gurage music business. Mostly Chaha/Ezha and the worst su*cker is Sodo milking the Gurage purse whereas they have no loyalty to.
About 4 months ago, I was reading wikipedia on Enor. Actual Enor residents are losing their tongue to Sodo and Silte. More people Sodo and Silte than the number of them. This means some Enor did claim to speak only Sodo or Silte.
The Enor Wereda admin has to intervene and stop this nonsense.

I don’t know that gunchirye is a persons name but I know the place but really long long ago before even became a regional center.
This old music seams one level higher than the traditional style. I have soft spot for traditional arts such ዌግ/ደስ:: I don’t know if you know እየየወ:: Usually one old lady ግጥም ትደረድራለች and other girls/ladies playing drum ይቀበላሉ:: Usually during weddings. All heros from the girls or boys side will be raised. Also this may be used for war preparation. For that purpose, the drum used may be very big.
However, I don’t like ዋቅ and በድራ!!

Close proximity to Addis Abeba plays a part in Amharic spread to Gurage. Also youth migration to towns to work not only reduces their proficiency in their mother tongue, they also help introduces Amharic words to their families and villages.
But these are not the main reasons. Most important factor is Gurage's gov unwillingness to protect the language, use and develop it while the Constitution permits and federal gov funds available upon request, UNESCO and foreign gov grants such as from Canada, Europe obtainable upon presentation of language preservation and promotion projects. Even wealthy Gurages and Gurage community fund-raising were nit sought.
I closely followed the activities Gurage admin officials on this matter. They have denied the Gurage people to write, use and transmit their language to their kids knowing very well Oromo, Tigrey, Sudama, Kembara, Hadiya, Alaba, Somali, Harari, and almost all Ethiopians write, teach and use their languages in gov, school, and media. Gurage semitic language professor also did not help.
A conspiracy to kill Gurage indeed!
