The size of Welkait-Tsegede is 1/3 the size of Tigray proper. The folks in Tigray somehow gotten used to the idea of having it indefinitely and had become difficult to let go for the obvious reason i.e the land is a bread basket and cash cow.

As Amharas got stronger and stronger, the Tegaru will learn how to behave better and live in peace with the hosting society (Amharas of welkayt) as they were for centuries. Let alone welkayt, Tigrayans live in peace throughout Gondar and Wollo in large numbers. There will be a time that they will appreciate that. The coming of Tplf totally changed the harmonious egalitarian habitation of the Ethiopian people throughout. This forever changed the communities that lived in 14 previous regions will make new comers suspicious. The only way Welkaites will be protected from Weyane/Tolf/Shabia is through the right leadership of Ethiopia, the egalitarian constitution, and its people being strong through Gonderes help. This area continues to be under threat not just by Tplf, but also by Sudan and foreigners. The weakness of central govt is what is making the continuous Welkaite vulnerability.
