‘The impact has been devastating’: How USAid freeze sent shockwaves through Ethiopia

Ethiopia was the largest recipient of US aid assistance in sub-Saharan Africa before Donald Trump froze funding last month.

In 2023 Ethiopia received American aid worth more than $1bn as it grappled with drought and civil conflict, making it the largest recipient of US assistance in sub-Saharan Africa and the fifth biggest in the world.

Most of this money went to fund the war.

Last month at the AU conference, Wedi Beshasha, a pathological liar who seems incapable of controlling his mendacity, had no qualms to boldly declare
-Agricultural Growth: Cultivated land doubled, crop production reached 700 million quintals, with wheat accounting for 40%, Ethiopia is now Africa’s largest wheat producer
It is mind-boggling that the retard expects people to believe such idiotic lies when everyone knows that Ethiopia has been in the midst of devastating civil-wars for the past 4 years!

The dependency ran two ways. The regular deluge of food aid had turned Ethiopia into a global welfare state. And its reliance on the huge volumes from the United States bred a bizarre dependency on weather and growing conditions in the American Midwest. "You hear people say they don't care whether it rains in Ethiopia as long as it rains in Iowa," said Mesfin Abebe, an adviser to the deputy prime minister and minister of rural development during the famine.

Ahmed said Trump’s abrupt order sent shockwaves through Ethiopia’s humanitarian community and gave them no time to seek alternative funding for life-saving work.

“This directly affects millions of Ethiopians,” Ahmed said. “If the funding does not resume, it could lead to deaths and an even larger humanitarian crisis in conflict-affected and food-insecure regions.”
