Ethiopia’s Leadership Crisis: A Nation in Turmoil

Since the Prosperity Party-led government began steering Ethiopia without direction, lacking both management and leadership skills, the country has plunged into relentless conflict. Ethiopia is bleeding, entangled in internal strife and confrontations with its neighbors. The Prosperity Party, now whispered among Ethiopians as “Preposterous Party”, has proven incapable of quelling fires—instead, it feeds the flames. Ghostly conflicts continue to ignite, leaving Ethiopia burning like a [deleted], while the regime marches blindly forward.

Eritrea Under Fire from Abiy’s Government

The Abiy administration and its allies in Tigray have engaged in propaganda, deception, and provocation, aiming to inflame tensions with Eritrea. The regime seeks to drag Eritrea into chaos, hoping that an Eritrean response will shift global attention, turning its internal failures into an international spectacle. In desperation, Abiy’s government fabricates narratives, making pleas for sympathy, sending officials to television studios to shout about sea access and ports, and recycling old and new images to manipulate perceptions. Many observers now dismiss these theatrics as nothing more than desperate rhetoric.

A Failing Regime Grasping for Survival

No one is fooled by the fact that the PP government has failed to govern Ethiopia, a country it inherited from the EPRDF. A government that cannot ensure peace, security, or meet the basic needs of its people has no credibility to expand its ambitions beyond its borders. Abiy’s delusional dream that mentioning the sea will distract Ethiopians from their suffering is a reckless gamble. However, the regime is now realizing that the fires engulfing Ethiopia are closing in on Addis Ababa itself.

Eritrea’s Clear message

Eritrea’s message to Abiy and its PP government is simple and clear: Stay home. Learn from past mistakes. Act wisely. The Eritrean Defense Forces (EDF), which upholds peace and security, protects its borders, and defends its nation, cannot be swayed by hollow threats or reckless provocations. If Ethiopia’s leadership chooses madness over reason, the outcome is predictable.

Just yesterday, Ethiopia’s defense, security, political, and diplomatic institutions acknowledged Eritrea’s strength and intelligence, yet today, some within the regime fabricate conflicts to maintain power. The Ethiopian people deserve leadership, not chaos. The country is already teetering on the edge of collapse, yet Abiy’s government continues to plunge it further down the cliff in a desperate bid for survival.

A Call for Peace and Stability

The only way forward is to unite Ethiopia, establish a government that reconciles its people and its neighbors, and seek peace instead of manufacturing enemies. Ethiopia’s future depends on friendship, not hostility, and on rebuilding the nation instead of waging futile battles.
The Ethiopian people must choose: continue down the path of destruction or build a future of stability and cooperation.

General
Building a Skilled Future: TVET for the Workforce and the Economy

By: Dr. Fikrejesus Amahazion

Recently, local media outlets reported that several hundred students from colleges in Asmara and Adi-Keih have successfully completed short-term vocational training programs. These programs complement the regular and long-term technical and vocational education offered across Eritrea, including in Dekemhare, Nakfa, Asmara, Hagaz, Mai-Habar, and Halay.

Beyond their various immediate benefits, these initiatives underscore Eritrea’s steadfast commitment to human capital development and its broader efforts to drive inclusive socio-economic growth, achieve sustainable development, and enhance the living standards of its people. As Eritrea continues to strengthen its technical and vocational education and training (TVET) infrastructure, these programs serve as a cornerstone in the nation’s strategy to equip its citizens with the necessary skills to thrive in an evolving global economy.

In this context, the skills and mindset developed through TVET programs provide young people with a viable pathway to formal employment. In Eritrea, thousands of young men and women have graduated from TVET institutions nationwide, acquiring high-quality training across diverse fields. The majority of these graduates secure stable, permanent jobs directly related to their training, allowing them to apply their skills, increase their lifetime earnings, and improve their quality of life. Furthermore, many TVET graduates eventually establish their businesses, becoming job creators rather than job seekers. This not only helps combat unemployment, but also stimulates local economies by fostering innovation and self reliance.

Upholding rights, fostering cohesion, and promoting equality

Another vital, albeit overlooked, aspect of Eritrea’s TVET programs is their pivotal role in upholding fundamental rights, fostering social cohesion, and promoting gender equality. By equipping young people with essential skills and expanding employment opportunities, TVET contributes to creating a more equitable society. Globally, vocational training is recognized as a powerful tool for empowering marginalized communities by enhancing employability and fostering financial independence. In Eritrea, TVET institutions enroll students from diverse backgrounds, including those from historically disadvantaged communities and regions. This inclusivity highlights the program’s role in bridging historically vast socio-economic divides and ensuring that all citizens, regardless of particular background, have equal access to meaningful opportunities.

TVET programs also play a significant role in advancing gender equality, which remains a key priority for Eritrea. These programs have enabled young Eritrean women to gain expertise in trades traditionally dominated by men, such as carpentry, construction, woodwork, and metalwork. Many of these women have excelled in their respective fields, challenging deep-seated socio-cultural stereotypes and redefining perceptions of gender roles. (Just last week, a popular local television show presented the inspiring story of one young woman who had graduated from one of Eritrea’s TVET institutions and is now excelling in several fields, including carpentry, mechanics, and metalworks.) Their success reflects a broader shift toward empowerment, autonomy, and agency, reinforcing the importance of expanding access to vocational training for all. By fostering an environment where young women can not only participate but excel in technical fields, Eritrea is making strides toward a more inclusive and progressive society.

Eritrea’s ongoing investment in technical and vocational education is a testament to its commitment to developing a skilled workforce, fostering sustainable economic growth, and creating opportunities for its young people. By continuing to expand and enhance these programs, the country is laying the groundwork for a future in which every young person has the tools to succeed and make a meaningful contribution to society.

Moving forward, increasing collaboration between the government, TVET institutions, international development partners, and the private sector will be essential in ensuring that TVET remains responsive to local industry needs. If Eritrea continues to prioritize TVET, the benefits will extend far beyond individual employment, fostering a dynamic, self-sufficient economy that benefits the entire nation.

37th Anniversary of Demise of Nadew Iz Observed

The 37th anniversary of the demise of Nadew Iz and the liberation of Afabet, commemorated on 19 March, was marked with great patriotic enthusiasm.

The event, attended by numerous Afabet residents, featured student and military parades, along with cultural and artistic performances by the ‘Algen’ cultural troupe of the 31st Division of the Armed Forces, adding solemnity and festivity to the occasion.

Mr. Ahmed Mohammed-Nur Rejib, administrator of the sub-zone, highlighted the historical impact of the fall of Nadew Iz 37 years ago, which signaled the imminent independence of the country.

Mr. Rejib further noted, that this year’s anniversary is being observed during a uniquely significant historical period and called on all nationals to remain vigilant and responsive to the ongoing nation building process.

Mr. Mahmud Sheikh Hamid, administrator of Afabet town, emphasized that beyond celebration, the commemoration carries deep historical meaning for the Eritrean people and urged the younger generation to carry forward this vibrant legacy.

It is worth noting that the Eritrean People’s Liberation Front (EPLF) launched a swift offensive from 17–19 March 1988 on the Nakfa Front, during which the Derg’s formidable Nadew Command—comprising 20,000 soldiers equipped with sophisticated military hardware—was decisively annihilated.
