Transformation of Addisaba to Finfinné and Ethiopia to Oropia!

By Fayyis Oromia*

The yearly celebration of Irreechaa in Finfinne is an indication that the legitimate, expected and natural transformation of Addisaba to Finfinne as well as Amapia (Amaranet dominated Ethiopia) to Oropia (Oromummaà led Ethiopia) is going on slowly, but surely. Oromo nationalists in the rebel front (OLA), in the opposition organization (OFC) an ruling party (OPP) are doing good job in unison. But, the best key for this successful transformation is the near future promotion of Afaan Oromo to its legitimate primary working language of the palace, parlament and other federal institutions, replacing Amarigna. Equating Amaranet to Ethiopiawinet must come to an end, at the same time promoting identities of all nations in the country being led by Oromummaà because of its demographic and geographic advantage need to be pushed forward. Such multicolor and multicultural Ethiopia shall be a rainbow country having at least 40% Oromummà, 20% Agawinet, 10% Amaranet, 6% Somalummà, 5% Tegarunet, 4% Sidamummà, 3% Guragenet, 2% Afarummà and 10% national identities of the rest others.

At the beginning of 2018’s change, Dr. Abiy’s position was diffuse, so that the three angles of Ethiopia’s triangular power struggle (Amara, Tegaru and Oromo) supported him. He enjoyed the best popularity any Prime Minister can only dream in all corners of Ethiopia. Amara elites thought that they can instrumentalize him as they did to Mengistu H/Mariam. Tegaru elites hoped to use him like they manipulated H/Mariam Desalegn. Oromo elites cautiously supported him thinking that he can implement Baro Tumsa’s vision. In due process, Dr. Abiy proved to be none of the three. Surely, he is neither H/M Desalegn nor Mengistu H/M. Regarding Baro’s vision, he failed to implement till now. If he may do it in the future, time will show us. In case he is yet open for the vision, let me remind him.

Baro Tumsa (1938–1978), pharmacist, lawyer, Oromo nationalist and political leader in Oromia was said to be one of those mainly responsible for formation of the OLF. He was one of the revolutionary students in 1960s – who once spoke: “We, the Oromo, must capture state power by any means necessary. In order to do this, we must clandestinely organize all sectors of our society. It is the responsibility of the young educated Oromo like you, to disseminate the spirit of Oromo nationalism when you return to your respective communities. We can only change the deplorable condition of our people by being tolerant to one another and reestablishing a necessary Oromo national unity. In this way, we can build a strong organization, capture state power and take actions that facilitate fundamental social transformation.”

The question yet to be answered is: did the Oromo already capture state power? If yes, why we still failed to take actions that facilitate fundamental social transformation? If such social transformation in Oromo terms takes place, then surely Addisababa shall be Finfinne and Ethiopia will be Oropia (Oromummà led country) both in content and in form. Is Dr. Abiy’s next job to accomplish this transformation? If he may miss this chance of being Baro Tumsa in action, history will judge him. The envisioned transformation then can be fulfilled by genuine Oromo nationalists in OFC and OLF, when they shall takeover power from OPP in Finfinne palace.

We know that the north eastern Africa is living area of the Oromo, whose land the Greeks called Ethiopia, the Arabs designated Al-Habesh and the Jews named Cush, for more than 10 thousand years. This stem nation, the Oromo, slowly differentiated and be fragmented to different Cushitic speaking nations. Since the last 3 thousand years, these Cushitic nations started to be influenced by Habeshanization process and some lost their priori identity and became Ge’ez speakers, who further influenced the Oromo and Oromia, including the capital so that they named the city as Addis Ababa and changed the name of the country to Ethiopia.

Now it is time for the Oromo to reclaim both the city and the country. We already started to re-call the city Finfinne, now we should start to re-name the whole country, not only the Oromo region, as Oropia because of the fact that future democratic Ethiopia will be de facto Oropia. To solidify this, we shall promote Afaan Oromo to primary language of the union, Cushitic black-red-white to flag of the union and Oropia to name of the union.
