The only problem with Ethiopia is it does not have an Ethiopian leadership. The repeated lies of Abiy Ahmed pushed away many Ethiopian. He kept none of his words - that is 100% liabilty.
Let's evaluate this in a different scenario - Ethiopia without Abiy Ahmed.
First, Eritrea province will give up Assab and behave wisely for it Shabia very well know Ethiopia without tribal poltics (100-years homework) is a superpower and a force impossible to face off.
Second, unlike the brutal Derg era ( where Ethiopians lacked clarity about the end goal), this time around Ethiopians got a very good lesson and experience. There will be no procrastination in terms of fighting Shabia and keeping Assab until the end of the world. It will be impossible for Shabia to engage in guerilla attack for Ethiopia will not give-up.
Third, Egypt is not a significant force to stop Ethiopia. Rather Ethiopia can stop Egypt. Supporting Eritrea province will not ensure Egypt's interest but will tighten the noose around its neck. Egypt like Eritrea will behave and comply with Ethiopia's interest.
Note: Ethiopia might not need to use Assab for certain years, until Shabia's and Egypyt's hiccup stops. Re-claiming Assab itself is a grand victory and using it comes later once the Shabia mess is cleared. There is also collinearity between Assab and Asmara.
