Two tombs of the heroically famous Imam Ahmed in two places
Few in Ethiopian history match the fame and the heroics of Imam Ahmed El-Ghazi of Zaila, capital of the Sultanate of Adal. He successfully invaded Abyssinia to prevent Abyssinia from conquering, destroying and subjugating the Caliphate of Adal whose territory spanned from Suakin in present day Sudan to Zaila. He invaded Abyssinia to stop slave trade in Muslims from south of Amara after the destruction and subjugation of the Sultanate of Ifat. It was this lesson that inspired him to invade, conquer and rule Abyssinia to make it a territory of his empire of Adal.
He successfully ruled Abyssinia for 15 years. Abyssinia flourished in trade, import/export, from and to all around the world including India, as all ports on the Red Sea and Indean Ocean were open to it.
He was a super Muslim. He did not revenge against the monarchs and their families. They retained their crown with only one requirement: they will respect and obey him.
Unfortunately, they betrayed him. Secretly, they called for Catholic Portuguese support while they were the followers the unreformed ancient heretic Orthodox sect, the kind of which is only practiced in Ethiopia.
Portugal sent its army led by Vasco de Gama. The two fought at Winadega in Begemdir in February 1543. As he rode to the front of his soldiers line to encourage them, a bullet hit and wounded him. His soldiers helped move him away to safety.
Some say he died of his wounds in the village of Sentara in Daguma wereda of Begemdir, where the local Muslims built a tomb.
Others say his wife Wombara brought him to Harar and died in Hubat near Dire Dawa, where his second tomb also exists.

Re: Two tombs of the heroically famous Imam Ahmed in places
In 1543, Emperor Galawdewos, the son of Emperor Lebna Dengel, took the throne and defeated and killed Ahmed Gragn in a Battle near Lake Tana.
አማራን የነካ የለውም በረካ
What is left of the Adal sultanet is the walled city of Harar. Much of hararis now are hybrids of Galla since the Galla took over and fck the bitches of the adal sultanet. pure hararis are now numbered to 10,000. The minority of minorities.
Galla messed with us in the 16th century the same way the Adals did in 15th century. We put Galla to sleep for hundreds of years and only back to power with demonstrations in western streets. We will put to sleep Galla very soon.
Tigrayans messed with us 35 years ago and caused mayhem to our people. and Tigryans are still confused on how we put them back to where they were with a loss of million souls going further into minority of minority leagges.
When fano take over, it will be my personal responsibility to make sure the Silte ethnic wuhabist cowards be addressed in an appropriet manner. Silte wahabists are worse than the Galla and Tigre combined. This tiny minority will have its reckoning day

Re: Two tombs of the heroically famous Imam Ahmed in two places
I believe he died in Sentara, Begemdir. The Tomb there is the only possible grave of the imam.
His tomb in Hubat is there just because he was born near it, Zacka.
After he was wounded, there is no report that states his wife and soldiers brought him back to Hubat or his birthplace of Zackat, near Dire dawa.
I think they buried him there in Sentara, Begemdir, and fled back to Harar after 15 years.

Ahmed Gragn is the first person to introduce muskets and cannons in battles. The Ottoman Turks armed him for his expedition. The muskets and cannons created terror on the then Abyssinian society. Not far from where i grew (Bete Amhara - Wollo) there is a medium sized mountain that is very steep on one side and slopy on the other. The local fable says that Ahmed Gragn cut that mountain with his left hand in just one strike
Once the portuguese introduced muskets, the abyssinians learnt that Gragn has no majic power. His tools were man made and the battle turned around leading to the capture and death of Ahmed gragn hismelf and the end of Adal sultanate. The moral of the story is Adal sultanet including Ahmed gragn were defeated for eternity. they only exist on text books now. And in some qizenam silte cowards mind who are very afraid to go to battles

Have a respect to this hero that transformed northeast Africa into a huge empire reaching Suakin on the Read Sea in present Sudan, Funj kingdom in Sennar in present Sudan, all through southwest present Ethiopia to the coasts of the Indean Ocean.Misraq wrote: ↑20 Feb 2025, 16:09Siltew Dama,Dama wrote: ↑20 Feb 2025, 15:48I believe he died in Sentara, Begemdir. . So Ahmed Gragn was seen as some supernatural monster indicating the pshychological fear and terror the turkish canons created in the then medieval society.

He invaded Abyssinia to stop evil, plunder and slavery by extremist Christians. The new expanded Adal Sultanate enjoyed islamic justice, freeing it from evil plundres, religious and ethnic oppressions, and freed people working and socializing in harmony, prospered in wealth and islamic literacy. Islam as a second choice of religion has become widely available. Since he died, Abyssinia never saw peace up to the present.
It's understandable the ancients saw cannon power as supernatural force. They had not seen the machines before. No, they were not stupids or mentally challenged. It was just a new machine they had not seen before. That is how humanely Islam treated medieval primitives. Islam did not take away their human dignity only because they were ignorants.
The Imam were not captured. They were wounded on the first line of his soldiers when he came from the backstage to encourage them to keep on fighting. A bullet hit him and fell of his horse. Picked up by his retreating army back to camp where his wife Wombra received him. As there is no news of her taking his remains to Harar, there is good reason to believe that she buried him at Sentara, Deguma, Begemdir.
I will donate USD1000 to locals to improve the Tomb's tourist attraction!
Re: Two tombs of the heroically famous Imam Ahmed in two places
stop being a revisionist. He never ruled such a vast land. His conquest took 15 years to reach north. He never settled. In the end he was killed from behind when he was on the run. As i said, there were two favourable conditions that enabled him to cause his reign of terror
1) Inmprted Cannon from Otoman Turks
2) His contender was a young and 15 year old boy abyssinian emperor called Libne Dingel who has no experience on leadership due to his age. By the way, Amhed Gragn is also assisted by disgruntled provinsial leaders who understood that the weakness of this boy king.
If Ahmed Gragn is a strong and smart as you said, he wouldn't have been defeated and lose the entire Adal sultanet.

Re: Two tombs of the heroically famous Imam Ahmed in two places
He was the servant of the Ottoman empire to Islamise Ethiopia.
Re: Two tombs of the heroically famous Imam Ahmed in two places
African locals of both Gelawdios and Imam Ahmed were in the second battles lines at the back. The Front battle lines for both Gelawdios and the Imam were manned the Portuguese and Turks, respectively. Imam Ahmed was shot by an unremarkable Portuguese mercenary.
The battle ended before the Africans of both sides would be called in to fight.

Re: Two tombs of the heroically famous Imam Ahmed in two places
That fake death account is written for you be Galla Ahmedin Jebel. Muskets don't kill you. Rather muskets harm you and more of a terror weapon in those days. Ahmed Gragn was killed with a spear then behaded with a machete. Sorry about that but no sorry. He is only lionized by wahabist corners. ልቆማጣ አንድ ጣቱ ብርቁ ናት እንደሚባለው ::
Abyssinians are best and courageous fighters and swallow that bitter fact. Only afgans can compete. Not the coward silte for sure.

The war that started in Jarte in 1542, near Wajirat Tigrey, ended in Woinadega, Begmdir, in 1543. The Imam's tomb in Sentara, Deguma is a straight line west from Wajirat.
