For over 70 years USAID had its tentacles deep into every part of Ethiopian life that we can't see life without it.

Thanks to our past and present Ethiopian leaders who agreed to subordinate themselves in exchange for foreign aid, USAID has complete control over all Ethiopian civil societies, NGOs, political institutions, human rights bodies, the media, including the government that we will have a hard time filling the void left by USAID.

I think its time to stretch out our hand to God, i.e. our Heavenly Father. Because only God can save us now.

In principle, I agree with you in that we must not depend on USAID. In fact, the disagree with in that the 1.5 billion US aid is a small amount of money in the present day Ethiopia. A single company is worth more than 1.5 billion in 2025 Ethiopia. This is the point.

Then, there is the point about all these civil societies and NGOs that are dependent on USAID. Most of these self-serving entities need to be home grown and dependent on their own people. It is a blessing that their umbilical cord is cut off from being a tool of super power global politics.

The maxim, necessity is the mother invention, is a fundamental truth. USAID dependent Ethiopian entities will learn to rely on their own efforts or will die away. So, this new American policy, if it is true, is a God-sent blessing in my view. And, I trust that Ethiopians are already secretly happy that this happening, if it happens at all. I say 'if' because, America needs it more than we do.

Ethiopian foreign policy is now pretty much diversified and the Abiy regime knows that US is not its reliable supporter.
