OLA as Symbol of Third Generation Oromo Nationalists to Realize Oropia (Oromummà Led Ethiopia)?

No question that the Oromo liberation struggle now is against the incumbent salisawi Derg, aka Biltsigina, who is trading in the name of representing Oromo. The struggle against the monarchy, qedamawi Derg of Mengistu and dagimawi Derg of Meles was very explicit against Habesha dominated regimes and was not as such confusing. But now, the regime in power is not explicit Habesha regime, but implicit rule of Amapianists (pro Amaranet dominating elites) led by Dr. Abiy. Thus, Oromo struggle needs a smart generation, who can adjust its struggle to the situation of tackling this Amapianist rule in Finfinne palace. For that purpose, we need Oropianists (elites believing in Oromumma led Ethiopia) rather than only Oromianists of past generation. The question yet to be answered is whether OLA is such highly needed Oropianist developing from the hitherto Oromianist OLF. I hope that OLA fighters have Oropia (Oromumma led Ethiopia), which is almost 2x bigger than Oromia at heart and shall prevail over the currently ruling Amapianists in the near future. It is now the appropriate time to think bigger about the whole Horn of Africa, where the Oromo live starting from Meroe to Mombasa, and be inclusive.

We have observed that Oromo nationalists are evolving in the last 50 years from 1st generation having mono-goal through 2nd generation with dual goal to the current 3rd generation entertaining triple goal. Common for all of them and fact on the ground is that who ever fights against the system of Amaranet domination in Ethiopia serves Oromo’s struggle for freedom and works for realisation of one of the following three sovereignty after freedom:

– realisation of an independent republic of Oromia as planned by the OLF

– achievement of federal Union as strived by OFC

– transformation of Ethiopia to integrative Oropia as visualized by Meison.

All the three post-freedom types of sovereignty are beneficial for the Oromo people. Thus, we can support the three camps of freedom fighters (pro-independence, pro federalism and pro-integration), who are still struggling for freedom (bilisumma) from Biltsigina and sovereignty (walabumma) after demise of Biltsigina!

Based on their approach towards the above mentioned three goals, there are three generations of Oromo nationalists:

– 1st generation of 1960s, who picked up one of the three goals and vehemently rejected the other two. For example, Meison of Halle Fida chose an integrative Oropia, Ichat of Baro Tumsa preferred federal Union and OLF of Galaasa Dilbo opted for an independent Oromia.

2nd generation of 1990s, who regarded two of the three and excluded one. For instance, ONC of Dr. Merera accepted referendum on integrative Oropia vs federal union, but disregarded independent Oromia (we can call this Ethio-referendum), whereas OLF of Ob Daud excluded integrative Oropia and advocated referendum on federal union vs independent Oromia (we can state this as Ethno-referendum).

3rd generation of 2020s, who are inclusive to accept both referenda on integrative Oropia vs federal union vs independent Oromia (we can name it Dual-referendum). Some Oromo nationalists now belong here and believe that there is no disadevantage for the Oromo as long as we make no compromise on our AAA (Àdà/culture, Afàn/language and Àngô/power) in Finfinne palace and the whole country. Will the rest of Oromo individuals, organizations and institutions start to entertain this purely democratic and inclusive approach of the third generation? Is OLA the symbol for such inclusive generation of Oromo nationalists?
