I would expect more such depraved crimes in Eritrea. We don't know because Eritrea is punitively a closed society.

Common to:
1. poor economies
2. militarized societies. People are desensitized to loss of lives and limbs because courage to act on your belief is encouraged.
3. Abundant availability of kill weapons such as daggers, matchetes, knives, pistils and guns. #3 does not exist without #2 and #1.

This crime is unfortunate and cruel but it could happen anywhere in the world. Ascaris as usual will try to use it as blackmailing news as if no family related crime is committed in Eritrea or by Eritreans in the diaspora.
