How could someone with his right mind write something like the following two sentences in the same article of a press media, just few paragraphs apart?

By October, year-on-year inflation in Ethiopia stood at 16 percent, its lowest rate for several years.

Prices are up and work is down

, said one market porter in Addis Ababa, slumped on an old tire after a morning spent lugging sacks of grain. “I’m just praying for God to save me.”

Use a different source to make such a conflicting statement in the name of journalistic reporting.

Inflation is going down does not mean prices are going down. It means prices are still rising, but the rate of increase is lower than before i,e 36%.

The first quotation stated that prices have increased by 16% within a year. But the rate of inflation is lower than the year before. Don't forget that a bread that used to cost 100 costs 116 now.

The second quotation is stated that

Prices are up and work is down

because it went from 100 per bread to 116 per bread within one year. So, the quotations are not conflicting statements, brother Defend, although 136 is worse that 116.

I would be gladly corrected if you can provide in this world where inflation is zero or even possibly negative. I think it is even good for the economy's overall health activity to have some level of inflation, you could correct me here too.

The whole article tries to elaborate how Ethiopia dared to reform its economy and float the currency market and thereby double the value of USD against the local currency, where a certain lawmaker was even daring to demand to double the salaries of employees based on the doubled foreign-currency value in relation to the local one.

Anyhow if inflation is a normal phenomenon in a given economy, then why try to sensationalize something that should be considered normal? Did you also notice how he/she was using everywhere anonym respondent to all of his questions?

The message could be misleading, but the urge inside the author is not. They decide to write about us only when they think they have some negativity about us (our country) and we are then over joyed and readily clap our hands for them for that.

2% is considered a healthy rate of inflation. Try to imagine if the inflation rate of the country where you live is 16%? I don't think you would see articles about how high the rate is as sensationalization.
