Perhaps my response may not be related to the topic at hand but the term wax and gold (Qine) evoked my memory.

I recall when I was a freshman at the uni of sidist kilo, our amharic professor who was 1.5 meter short and who was lecturing us Amharic 101 asked the following question and he challenged us to have an answer:

Below is the Amharic Qine, I invite you, Dejach or Abere or even meleket to decipher it to us. If you fail, I will decipher it to you on Friday.

Here we go:

Yachawitalu yemotutu Qomaw lemihedutu.

I don't believe professor Tog wejalle has an answer.

Hey, I have mistakenly thought that they were Amharas of course with the exception of Meleket who is an Eritrean and who masters the amharic language.

Back to your response regarding deciphering the Qine, I am in a dilemma, I am lost in between. I don't know whom to believe... You or the professor.

Perhaps you are right because you master the amharic language, however, below is how our amharic professor decoded the Qine:

Here we go...

Yachawtalu yemotutu Qomew lemihedutu means...

The hides (Qoda) of the dead oxen or sheep being used as drum (kebero) also the hides being used for masinQo, begena and krar including mran made of hides (no clue what it is in amharic) is applied to tie the kebero (drum)

In a nutshell, the Qine can be decoded as the dead ones entertaining the living ones.
