Somaliland and Ethiopia will never be equal business partners. People in Somaliland are not producing or manufacturing anything whatsoever, as all their life revolves around chewing khat and talking tribalism 24/7 and doing nothing else. And this is the main reason why the West s not interested in recognising this region, as they know perfectly well that all Somaliland would do if recognised is to embark upon begging the West - and no one wants one more hungry mouth coming to the table.

You are making a different argument. Yes, Somaliland right now does not have the money to develop its resources because the cruel world has denied it a status that is critical to join world market and finance - hence why the singular rational for quest for recognition.
In January almost a year ago, I said that irrespective of the outcome of the MOU, Ethiopia has forcefully put the Somaliland cause on the world scale and that alone was a historic contribution of my nation Ethiopia to the people of Somaliland.
Again, irrespective of how long their recognition takes the Ethio-Somaliland strategic relationship including economic is sealed for good. Soon, we will buying Somaliland fish in Merkato. Soon, Somaliland will a dynamic economic partner of Ethiopia in many many fields including energy.
As for the effect of Chat on their culture, that is for their society to solve. Ethiopia also needs to solve its expansion both as commercial crop and drug problem.
That aside, Somaliland's vision of Ethiopia's strategic importance to its development is a far sighted and brilliant vision. Somaliland has miles upon miles of sea cost and by leasing a few km of it to us and in return enter Ethiopian market with force that is what I call brilliance. For us access to sea a naval base is as critical as the Nile Dam.
So, it is a marriage made in heaven. No power can sabotage it.
How has Ethiopia "forcefully put the Somaliland cause on the world scale"?In January almost a year ago, I said that irrespective of the outcome of the MOU, Ethiopia has forcefully put the Somaliland cause on the world scale

I was kind of sensing the same thing. Do you know the actual result or are you simply stating your preference? My other question is do both parties have same level commitment toward the MOU or do you think they will back out? I have no problem with whom Somalilanders choose for their president. My worry is all about the MOU.Jikaar wrote: ↑13 Nov 2024, 23:22Muse is not coming back. He failed to address some domestic issues , and we have decided to oust him, I know the results before it's counted. The new government is going to be very inclusive and have plenty of time. With almost zero opposition.
We will see a shift of somaliland diplomacy. Muse was warlike , and very straight forward. The new guy is a career diplomat, he talks less , he smile a lot. And he accomodates every one. Just like abiy pretended during his first 2 years in office. He is very unpredictable in my opinion.
No body knows the actual results yet. But the general atmosphere shows that he is loosing .Horus wrote: ↑13 Nov 2024, 23:35I was kind of sensing the same thing.
