The African Union has decided that the troops participating in the upcoming peacekeeping mission in Somalia will come only from countries that respect Somalia’s sovereignty - which obviously Ethiopia does NOT include.

ADDIS ABABA (SD)-The African Union has decided that the troops participating in the upcoming peacekeeping mission in Somalia will come only from countries that respect Somalia’s sovereignty.

The African Union Commission, implementing the decisions and daily operations of the African Union, is consulting with African countries that have expressed their readiness to contribute troops to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), according to a press release from the African Union Peace and Security Council.

The African Union Peace and Security Council discussed and made decisions related to the African Union’s support and stabilization efforts in Somalia (AUSSOM), which will replace ATMIS. The council also issued a statement detailing the meeting’s content and decisions.

While the Somali government will host and accommodate the next peacekeeping mission, the security council announced that the chairperson of the African Union Commission will meet with the Federal Government of Somalia to discuss the composition of the mission’s troops and the countries from which they will come.

I can say that Ethiopia is the only government we know of so far that will not participate in the new AU mission because it has violated our sovereignty and national unity - Somalia's Defense Minister, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur.
