Taking Horus to his own terms to define civilization
Odie informs me here that he understands what civilization means and that it is different from my perspective that he has read: Never civilized Oromo barberians.
Horus:
You come across on this forum as someone who deeply understands Ethiopia and its civilization.
Can you please define for both Odie and me what factors, attributes, or parameters constitute the inception of Ethiopia’s civilization some three thousand years ago?
It will help us all to have a coherent understanding of what led to the inception of civilization in Ethiopia, which has been going more or less strong for three thousand years now.
Thank you in advance.

I will be most glad to do so.

Naga Tuma,
This is what civilization means !!! It means creativity, craft, art, innovation, the culture of work, intelligence, problem solving.

It can damage the retina of the eyes. Just one flash, one look at the plasma. Plasma is sun.

I have just come back to this thread and read your response. Sorry for taking so long to get back to it.
I am vary glad that you wrote: “ስልጣኔ ስልት፣ ዘዴ፣ ብልሃት፣”
I would be glad even more if you can own your own terms and explain the origin of the word ዘዴ, which is also likely to be the root word for method.
Let us please discuss such simple ideas as learned people.
I advise you in advance that you take your time to understand the simple question fully before responding quickly.
I have both bad and good news for you about this topic. The good news is that you have just hit the track for the topic. The bad news is that you are at least twenty years behind in terms of what this single word ዘዴ means in local cultures in Ethiopia.
If we can get on the same page about this single word, it means one step out of one ኣዙሪት and progressing more.

While reading your online interaction with Fed_Up recently, I couldn’t help asking myself if both of you have left behind your days of joking inside the cafeteria of Addis Ababa University. I understand them because I know about college level jokes.
In the middle of reading it, I asked myself if Horus in particular had a clue back then what a mixed integer nonlinear programming means let alone formulate one and solve it.

The late Ethiopian Laureate Tsegaye Ghebremedhin:
You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. The cradle of man is here, the beginning of man is here, there is no refuting that. Archaeologists, geologists have dug everywhere and they have come up with the bones to prove that man started here. And that man was not sleeping, from the moment he was created he started creating. The heritage of that man, of the ancestor, is the heritage of the world.

Paraphrased, the late Professor Donald N. Levine wrote: The Borana Gada system represents the most complex social organization ever devised by the human imagination.
I don’t have his book close by now to quote him correctly. It is very close to this paraphrase.
Horus:
Would you say that this is a fair description of the system, if you know about it.

A thorough and learned discussion about this simple statement explains very much the small but serious deficit that I have been reading in your dispositions on this forum starting from the early days of engaging you on this forum.
I responded to your comment above politely. You failed to respond properly. What part of please did you not understand?
It doesn’t take much time to think about two words:
You own up your simple statement above about ዘዴ።
I will explain what I have come to learn about ሰዴ።
Cognition may sound fancy to you in this age even though it may be as old as it gets and gets recycled age after age.
Here is a simple age old example of teaching children about it at a very early age.
It goes up to ten.
This is for the purpose of explaining
Two of the impactful early inventions by mankind are the wheel and ሱንሱመ/ጉልቻ, one for mobility and the other for optimal stability.
People understood early on that two stands for a ጉልቻ make it unstable and four stands make the fourth one redundant. They found that three stands are for optimal stability.
Does this simple invention explain what you understand to be ዘዴ? The ball is now in your court to explain in concrete terms whether it does or not.
Re: Taking Horus to his own terms to define civilization
Mr. DDT/Naga...
I am not going to teach you the fundamentals of semiotics and linguistics here. You need to educate yourself. ሰዴ፣ ቶኮ፣ ለማ ... are entirely arbitrary signs in a particular language system. If you want to save yourself some embarrassment, at least, read Ferdinand de Saussure, Charles Sanders Peirce, & Roman Jakobson to have an idea of what semiotics means and how signs and object, how signs and concepts and how concepts and meaning are related. This is my final. I don't expect a response from you.

I advise you again that you don’t act a learned man. It is beyond acting a clever cadre.
I hoped after I joined this forum that you would be one of the participants on this forum who could rise to become an Ethiopian Renaissance man. Semira was another participant that I hoped could rise to the same level. After so many years, you remain clueless about it.
After so many years, each of you remained in your own ኣዙሪት።
As it has been said, the proof is in the pudding.
I intentionally took you to your own term
So, why run away instead of explaining your own term professionally if you assume yourself to be a learned man? Did the ball I threw into your court and taking you to your own term embarrass you?
Stuff your cheap ego wherever you want to and keep learning. Ethiopia’s Renaissance agenda is very far from your ego.
It is also far from your semantics theory. You will have been initiated when you fully understand the depth of Amos 9:7. I am sure you don’t dispute that. I don’t think that you have any idea yet about the depth of pit you have dug yourself in the sphere of learned men.
We have found the science. We have found the problem. Your ignorance about this topic is one of the problems.

You are taken to your own terms here. So, there is no excuse to let you go back to your own ኣዙሪት instead of helping you get over it by lecturing you to keep learning about it.
The late Ethiopian Laureate Tsegaye Ghebremedhin saiid: “And that man was not sleeping, from the moment he was created he started creating.”
If I remember correctly, you have written that you have learned from his research.
So, I invite you here to explain some of the things you have come to understand about the following expression by him: “… from the moment he was created he started creating.”
Mention just a few things that he said that man created and where what were created back then are used in Ethiopia today.
On my part, even if I haven’t heard from him directly, here are two examples of what that man invented in the early days: ሰዴ and ሸነቸ።
I have explained about the invention of ሰዴ for optimal stability.
I will add here the invention of ሸነቸ for what you call ስልጣን፣ ሰለጠነ።
Yes, you read that right. It is what you have come to know as Senate, according to yourself.
The invention of ሸነቸ or a committee of five is the origin of practicing ስልጣን። The imagination of a committee of an odd number is to avoid a tie among a committee that has its own head. That is literally a marker of ስልጣኔ, right?
Yes, when you start simple, you learn a lot and expand on it.
Now, process this for a moment. Lecturing you will continue.

If you haven’t watched this documentary yet, please get a hold of it and watch it when you get time. It was funded by the National Science Foundation.
There are few but crucial clues in it. One of the clues is that they borrowed the idea of debating and voting from elsewhere.
Be reminded then that until recently, humanity courses taught Ancient Greece as the birthplace of democracy and civilization some 2,500 years ago.
