This can be much excitement for those who can't make the distinction between semiotics and facts. It is true that all these fear driven actors are trying to act according to their perceived interests and threats but what really is the actual fact on the ground?
Who is losing who is winning?
The initial motives of Abiy Ahmed aside, all Ethiopia did was simply declare a statement regarding her needs and intentions to have access to the Red sea and build a naval force on the Red sea. That is all.
Now measure what has happened to Egypt, Somalia and Eritrea! A mere statement of intent on the part of Ethiopia, a truly consequential nation has shaken up the entire Horn of Africa.
Egypt has entangled itself in regional adventures which will have far reaching consequences with respect to other competing powers such as Turkey, Saudi, UAE, Israel, US, UK, China, Russia etc. Actions have consequences & one thing leads to another!!
Now follow how Egypt gets deeper deeper into more geopolitical & geoeconomic entanglement.
As a consequence of Ethiopia statement, Somalia has signed away 1/3 of its national asset to Turkey and has literally become Turkish - Egyptian colony. There is free no lunch! Somalia pays & will pay for everything it is signing for and giving away.
The crisis, fragmentation and possible multi-state deconstruction of Somalia can only get worse with each passing day & due to the global and regional battles over the resources of Somalia. The Somalia problems have just began.
Eritrea, a phantom of a nation that has not been able to form any meaningful system of governance or a political system is frozen in a permanent 'war of liberation' still dependent on Egyptian support for survival and it is literally selling its port for protection.
But ያህያ ባል ከጅብ አያስጥልም ነውና the fate of Eritrea is forever tied to Ethiopia not Egypt. Soon, Isayas's chicken will come home to roost.
Djibouti is also forever dependent on Ethiopia to create any kind of value out of its ports.
Whatever and how much the noise and the drama - Somaliland is an independent nation simply waiting for a breakthrough.
Ethiopia is working closely with multiple Somali States - Puntland, Jubaland, Southwest - to shape the realities of that part of the world.
Ethiopia gloriously has completed its grand dam and planning for new ones, including the management of Shebelle River.
So, what has Ethiopia lost in this frantic drama of Egypt, Eritrea, Somalia?
Nothing, nothing what soever!
Like a puppet master, Ethiopia is playing these tripartite fools in an epic dramaturgy.
In 2100 AD, Ethiopia will be the 7th largest nation on planet Earth. Those with sufficient intelligence in their skulls should recognize this hard, hard fact and out to form their strategic visions accordingly
Any emotionally driven short and stupid optics will have far, far reaching consequences for generations to come.
Ethiopia is an inevitable storm and hurricane heading your way!
The trajectory of history doesn't miss its target. Very soon, Ethiopia will surpass Egypt!
Have a good day.
