Amara mercilessly persecuted Gafat to their extinction

This study and numerous other studies investigated Gafat and found persistent persecution of the Gafats by Amara. Gafat language closely related to Eastern Gurage languages. Gafat went extinct in 1945, with the last of 3 old men and 1 old woman speaking it. In 1922, Gafats who spoke Gafat, Amaras called them 'outcasts'.

"...the first line of these three lines demonstrates the Gafat willingness to live in peace with their
neighbors and with the Ethiopian authorizes of those days. The second one goes in
complete agreement with the observation made by Manuel De Almeida in relation to the
Gafat food habits in their culture. The final and the last line denotes the menace against
the Gafat people by their neighbors and the Ethiopian regime of the time without basic
reason to justify."

A profoundly abusive relationship in which only one side is receiving all the abuse. Nothing is learned from the persecution and forcible extinction of Gafat by Amara. The remaining Gurage branches should stand on edge and on guard.

ጉራጌዎች ደስ ሲላችሁ አማራ የለም ደሞ ሲበርዳችሁ አማራ አለ በድሎናል የምትሏት ከኦሮሞ እና ከትግሬ የሰረቃችኋት የማስለቀስ ፓለቲካ መሆኗ ነው።
በቃ ወይ አላችሁ ወይንም የላችሁም በሚለው ፅኑ እና የሚወራረድ ሂሳብ ካለን በጠረጴዛ ዙርያ እናወራርድ። እስከምናውቀው ጋፋት እና አማርኛ mutual intelligible የነበሩና እስልምናን ተቀብለው ወደሃይማኖታዊ ፀብ ወርደው ከአህመድ ግራኝ ጋር የወጉንን ትንሽ እንደቆነጠጥን ነው።
የኋላ ኋላ ጉራጌንም ጋፋትንም ሌሎች የጠፉ 28 ብሔረሰቦችንም አላምጦ የዋጠው ኦሮሞ መሆኑ እየታወቀና ኮኦሮሞ ጋር አብሮ አማራ ላይ ማቀርሸት ጠላት ያተርፍላችሁ እንደሆነ እንጂ መፍትሔ አይሆንም። እናቱ የሞተችበትና እናቱ ገበያ ሄዳ ያረፈደችበት ልጅ በልቅሶ ደረጃ እኩል ያልቅስ እንጂ ለሞተችበት ሕመሙ የከፋ ነው። ስለዚህ በድቶህ ከዛም በልቶህ ከሰለቀጠህ ጋር ሆነህ አማራ ላይ ማቀርሸት ትልቅ ብልግና ነው።
ጉራጌ ሆይ ላትህን ውጭ አሳድረህ አንገቴ safe ነው የምትላት ጨዋታ ሃዘን ታመጣብሃለች።

ኦሮሞ ቅሪተ ጉራጌን እንደሚሰለቅጠው ክልል አልሰጥህም ባለው ግዜ አሳውቋል። ችግሩ የሆረስ አይነት ስግብግቦች ለሆዳቸው አድረው ከሰልቃጩ ጋር አብሮ መስራቱ ነው።

of the Gafat tribe that swam across from West Shewa (Mugar-Gindeberet, Ambo and Horu Gudru Plateau) across the Abay River due to Oromo Warlord Tulamas invasion conquest and assimilation of the Gafat people only 4 people could speak Gafat during James lifetime in 1770.
As well Gafat spoken during this time was largely influenced by Amharic as this was recorded in southern Gojjam.

Gafat, when Bruce visited it from Gondar, was a thriving community with full use of its language though much oppressed which was visible even by a casual observer like James.

James Bruce travels to discover the source of the Blue Nile took place between 1768 and 69. Published his travel memoires in 1770 in London, dedicated to King of England.
He visited Gafat from Gondar, invited or on his own in 1769. It seems that the Gafats had info that he was coming to visit. Chiefs and other dignitaries from all corners of Gafat may have come to see this white man who they believed would have something to tell them about Queen Saba and Solomon. They may have made a big splash for him as their most dignified guest. As their diets used to be more of meat and milk than grains, they may have slaughtered big bull(s), sheep{s), etc. The obvious drinks such as Tella and tej as well.
Gafat language was robust and very much living. Songs of Solomon was written in it. Daily business was carried out in it. It was widely spoken down to 1922 with threatening shift to Amharic. That's 176 years after James Bruce's visit to Gafat.
The last 4 persons who spoke Gafat were recorded in 1945 by Professor Wolf Leslau. Gafat was obviously spoken until these 4 speakers died, 5 years after in 1950, 10 in 1955, 15 in 1960, and so on. We don't know.

Gafat clans consisted of Abdray, Gambo, Birabado Yazembal,
Yasubli Ashamen, Harbawash Harba Akal, Wange, Den, Waket and Waremadud. These
clans in the distant past according to Taddesse Tamrat (1988b:125-127) resided in the
Shewa region of central Ethiopia under the regional chief with a title Zhan Be Gedem.
The place names and genealogical research which Ahmed (2007:58) conducted in the
area of Yifat (North-Eastern Shewa) demonstrate that these clan groups of Gafat lived
there as this area is not far away from the site of Gedem mentioned above.
We learn from Taddesse Tamrat (1988b:133) that certain groups of the Gafat converted
to Christianity during the reign of the fifteenth century King Zer’a Yaiqob of Ethiopia
(1434-1468). Francisco Alvarez, editors and translators, Beckingham and Huntingford
(1961: 458,495, 576), was the capuchin traveler who visited the court of the sixteenth
Century King Lebne Dengel of Ethiopia (1506-1540). The Alvarez records narrate that
the Gafat were indigenous clan groups forming the larger community in those days and
one of the leading ingenious peoples of the country but with deep conflicts with the King
Lebne Dengel.
The Gafat clan groups used to take positions in the mountain, forests and valleys in North
East Shewa. Gafats occupancy however used to cover the area of the present Mugger
valley up to Gendeberet in Western Shewa as noted by Alvarez. Some of them, converted
to Islam. This is according to the sixteenth century Ahmed ben Ibrahim’s chronicler,
Shihab ed-Din, edited and translated by Rene Bassét (1897:224,366,399). We, however,
learn both from Christian and Islamic references that the Gafat people and the language
exposed and interacted with different cultures as well as intermarried with their close
neighbors such as the Amhara and the Oromo. When Manuel de Almeida visited the
region in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, the Ethiopian rulers of the time already
pushed the Gafat further west to the region of Gojjam.

No doubt Amara persecuted and extincted Gafat. It's documented. You can't just throw your who+re opinion and dismiss it. It weakened it with rape and violence, intimidations and displacements. Many had to flee their homes and live in inhospitable valleys, forests and mountains to avoid night raids.

(1) አንስተ ስላነሳሃው የጉራጌ መሬት፣ ካልቸርና ሕዝብ በኦሮሞ ወዋጥ ከእኔ እኩል እዚህ ፎረም ላይ የጻፈ የለም። አሁን ከ30 አመት በላይ ያጠናሁት ጉዳይ ነው ። እጅግ ብዙ ግዜ እንዳልኩት የጉራጌ ታሪካዊ ድምበር በምራብ የግቤ ወንዝ ነው ፤ በሰሜን የአዋሽ ወንዝ መነሻ ነው በምስራቅ የዝዋይ ሃይልቅ ነው። በደቡብ ሃዲያ ከምባታ ነው። ዛሬ ድረስ በነዚህ አራት ድምበሮች መሃል ያሉት ባህልና ግ ንድ ብትቆፍር የምታገኘው የጉራጌ ደም። የጉራጌ ባህል ቅሪቶች ፣ የጉራጌ ሴራ ቅሪቶች ናቸው ።
ወደ ፊት መደረግ ያለበት ነገር እዚህ የምታየው ቶክሲክ መርዛማ የጠላትና የደንቆሮ አዞ እምባ ሳይሆን እራሱ የጉራጌ ምሁራን ሊቃውንት መጀመሪያ እራሳቸው አንድ ሆነው ሳይንሳዊ የምርምራና የእውቀት ተቋማት ገምበት በትውልድ ደረጃ የሚሰራ ተግባር እንጂ ጉራጌ በማንም አጀንዳ ውስጥ የሚተበተብ ፣ የማንም ተቀጥያ ፣ የማን ስብከትና ቅስቀሳ መሳሪያ የሚሆን ሕዝብ አይደለም ።

I listen the old video you posted. The Songs of Solomon was not known in which village or town where it was recorded in 1769 By jame Bruce in Gafat. What was recorded at Weberma in Gojjam was the interview of the last 4 persons who spoke Gafat dialect of Gurage in 1945 by semitic languages linguist Professor Wolf Leslau.
