it’s really sad to see the regime traumatizes its youth (like Monica in Sawa) and holds them responsible for acting out what what their traumatized brain concocts. It’s even more sad to see the citizens cooperate with the regime in their own continued traumatizing experience. Monica didn’t have to go but she did. This is enough proof that if you abuse people enough, they will become willing participants in their own abuse. This is not isolated story. The Eritrean Ambassador in Nairobi is serving the regime while his wife is jailed incommunicado for decades. She is the mother of his children. Sick.

Awel is also traumatized. He serves his own tormentor. Deep down he doesn’t believe what he preaches. That’s why his own voice is so strange to him. So he screams.
