The Galla refer to him as Guddessa, while the Amhara assert that he was one of their own. This raises the question: What was the true identity of Ras Mekonnen? Who, indeed, was his father? This is a matter that warrants further exploration.

Is he Haile Sellasie's father? If so, who was Hailat's mother? Why is there nothing known about her?

Indeed, you are correct deqi. However, the Amhara refer to him as Mikael Wolde Melekot, though it remains unclear who exactly this nobleman was or what his true identity entailed. The galla, on the other hand, attribute to him an entirely different genealogy, naming him or his father differently. According to some accounts, Ras Mekonnen was the son of Dejazmach Wolde-Mikael, the governor of Gola near Ankober, and the grandson of Ato Gudissa. The question thus arises: who is telling the truth, and who is obscuring it?

by Noble Amhara
his name was
Mikael Wolde Melekot Yemane
Wolde Melekot is from his Shewa Amara Grandpa
Yemane is from his Tembien Grandma
basically he was born in Ankober / Teglut/Menz and was the king of Shuwa Amhara which began to rise during the time of Sahle Selasie (Sahle Selassie (Amharic: ሣህለ ሥላሴ, 1795 – 22 October 1847) was the King of Shewa from 1813 to 1847.) before his rise the Tulama were assimilating, conquering, pillaging all of Showa province into Orominization. as for him having a grandpa named Gudesa is unsourced and Gudesa is a tulama oromo name.. when Amhara kings came to power they stopped the Oromonization but they did not reverse it as Tulama kings did who succesfully wiped out Werje Gafat Tcheret Maya tribes from the region
King Sahle Selassie rose as Abichu Clan was in great trouble of being annihilated by the Tulama. By the way the Abichu Oromo are Amhara who been oromonized in 1710. So in 1813 Sahle Selassie unified all of northern Shewa awraja clans to fight against Tulama who killed his father when he was a child in Merhabete Awraja. By the Help of God Sahle Selassie took power and subdued the expansionist Tulama of borana orgin
King Sahle Selassie (1813-1847)
