you are naive. beggars are not allowed in the city, didn't know this? Even police officers gave orders to catch any beggars in the main roads. about smoking, it is really amazing, nowadays people who smoke are very small that is because the medias around the world including preached about the dangers of smoking.

I think the corridorization of Merkato is going to be very, very difficult. the sheer number of stores and structures might require a different kind of market space design such as Cairo, Marakesh of Morocco. Merkato now extends from Hapte Gorgis bridge to Mesalemiya (old kuwas meda, it has expanded beyond 7ኛ and practically swallowing አብነት area.

In my view the optimal solution is to build huge market center የገበያ ማዕከሎች and house these million size small merchants inside those market centers. So this is a different kind of solution from the quick and dirty corridor face lifting.
