Amapianist vs Uniopianist vs Oropianist Elites!
Interestingly, most of Oromo nationalists started to talk about Ethiopian unity, instead of the previously adored Oromian independence. But, do they all mean the same type of Ethiopia? We know that Ethiopia is simply a trade mark used by different elites of each nation being filled with their respective contents. Fact on the ground is that Ethiopia can theoretically exist further in the following three forms:
- As Amapia (Amaranet dominated Ethiopia) just like it has been since 1270 of Yekuno Amlak’s era to the status quo of Abiy Ahmed’s rule. It is almost true that Dr. Abiy’s Ethiopia is simply the yet existing Amapia, which he wants to keep by maintaining the dominant position of Amarigna as primary working language of the federation.
- As Uniopia, in which all languages in the country flourish according to their national proportion (40% Afaan Oromo, 20% Agawigna, 10% Amarigna, 6% Aaf Somaal, 5% Tigrigna, 4% Sidamu Afo … etc). This perspectiv of Dr. Lama Magarsa is ideal, but can exist only temporarly, if at all.
- As Oropia (Oromumma led Ethiopia), which is the future reality, if Ethiopia has to exist, be democratized and integrative. This will be a natural development, in case Afaan Oromo will get its legitimate leadership position based on the demographic and geographic advantage the Oromo have. Does Ob. Jawar mean Oropia, when he shifted from talking about Oromian independence to Ethiopian unity? I hope it be so!
