I don’t know how old you are but if you are old enough to experience the 2005 Ethiopian national elections and the Kinjit movement then you haven’t learned a lesson. A typical character of Ethiopians as old as the nation itself. Then like today the demagogue followers of Kinijit leaders has been deeply divided not on ideology but who should be the leader. Hailu Shawel vs BERHANU Nega. As professor Mesfin w/m labeled it then “hunger for power”. The pillars of Kinjit were Hailu Shawel and Lidetu Ayalew with a massive grassroots support and organizational structure. But then came street boys who were unable to even hold the organization they created with a few hundred memberships and joined & destroyed a movement with much hope. Then the Diaspora demagogue took a side and performed a clownish show on behalf of BERHANU Nega. It took them a decade to figure out they were wrong.

Another best example is the Ethiopian student movement of the 60. Our herd like mentality left us being the tools of Egypt and EPLF. If you don’t believe me go visit the EPRP website and read their political magazine of the time DEMOCRACIA. 50 years later some of them still have difficulties to figure out that they were wrong.
Our heard like mentality cost us 60 founding fathers of Ethiopia in one night. Those who were cheering the slaughter then took them 50 years to figure out they were wrong now.

Look, I sincerely believe Eskinder Nega is a good man and loves Ethiopia. He has been a peaceful activist who believes in peaceful struggle. He has gone through a lot for that principle.
But he hasn’t done anything to be in charge of a massive armed struggle. Instead he is a source of division. He just can’t let it go for the sake of the cause.

Fano is homegrown organic movement born out of oppression and marginalization. It is an armed struggle movement. The only hope of the Amhara people to save them from genocide.,The movement has already created talented regional figures. It will evolve and produce iconic figures. Let it grow on its own pace and time. It is impossible for the movement to have a western style elected leaders just like the one you enjoy to watch on CNN.
Please, please don’t try to appoint and dismiss Fano leaders on a YouTube channel.

While I agree with your assessment regarding the cascade of mistakes made by the opposition—some by design, some driven by a thirst for power, and others by misreading the situation— and while I also agree that such errors should never be repeated, I struggle to accept a predetermined prediction of the outcome based solely on paranoia. What I’m asking for is a careful evaluation of the situation, free from assumptions and bias.

That said, I fully agree with you that the Amharas should not be made sacrificial lambs under any circumstances. For the past half-century, they have sacrificed in the name of Ethiopia, holding on to the hope that better days would come—only to be met with disappointment and, worse, becoming victims of ethnic cleansing. Their survival is paramount. Any Amhara Fano leader who does not prioritize the survival and flourishing of the Amhara people in Ethiopia should not be near the Fano leadership, regardless of who they are.

However, the objections raised against Eskender lack justification. The accusation that he is divisive, or that he shares the same ideology as Berhanu and Ezema's Ethiopianist agenda, is simply not accurate. Eskender does not have a checkered history. Yes, he made a mistake by trusting the wrong people, believing they would help him in the struggle, but they fell short or betrayed him, we can't hold that against him. Unlike Berhanu or some members of Aben, Eskender has never compromised his principles for comfort or power.

In fact, Eskender was the first to bring the issue of Amhara ethnic cleansing to the UN—twice. He also organized a meeting in Washington, D.C., specifically to address the issue of Amhara ethnic cleansing and what needs to be done about it, well before the Fano struggle took off.

If some within the Fano leadership support him while others do not, they need to resolve it internally. They know what they are fighting for. It’s not as though they can be easily swayed into supporting someone without reason. What I resent is the idea that being an Ethiopian nationalist, both before and now, is somehow a mark against Eskender. After all, no matter how much we debate, at the end of the day, every so-called nationalist will have to come together to discuss how we can coexist under the Ethiopian umbrella. We shouldn't accuse Eskender for recognizing this sooner.

If the Amharas want to form a separate nation, that’s a different discussion we can have, but for now, that’s not the case.

Eskender has achieved nothing great he only desires to use the amhara people to gain ሥልጣን he killed fano commanders in shewa ! he is a snake ! of course he can put a mask on for the white man thats his goal!

I agreed on all the points you raised here except one crucial point. Leadership.

I have said time and again that Eskinder is a good man that loves Ethiopia. He is a man of principle and wishes Ethiopians well. But that is not a ticket to be in charge of the biggest homegrown popular movement in the country.

Eskinder has been around for a while in the fight for the rights and freedoms of Ethiopians. But you can’t name one organization that he guided successfully.
His well known organization BALDERAS melt down and disappear without any explanation. What did that tell you? When I heard Ermias Legesse was a 2nd in command of BALDERAS, I was shocked.

Look, for Eskinder, there is nothing wrong to try to be the leader of Fano. But when it backfired he got to stop it.
If you are portrayed as a source of friction in Gojjam and Shewa, at least try to help in other capacities in Gonder and Wollo and show what you can do. Instead of beating the same horse again and again.
The worst part of this circus show is that trying to influence or force his wishes through the Diaspora media a.k.a. YouTubers. Abebe Gelaw, Ermias Legesse and Habtamu Ayalew are having fun at the expense of Fano. Eskinder let them have fun.

My point is let Fano evolve and produce its own leaders. After all they started it all, born out of being marginalized and persecuted for who they are.
Outsiders should help in anyway they can. Trying to appoint and dismiss Fano leaders should not be allowed.
