Indegene soldiers of Italy were called ascaris. Italy conscripted 14,000 Eritreans for tge Adwa war against Menelick II. Mendlick defeated it.
Captured both White Italian and black Eritrean soldiers.
The Italian POW were humanely treated and returned to Italy.
But the 800 black captured Eritrean POWs, their right arms and left feet were amputated and left to die on the battle field.
A horrendously painful war crime.
